Enchantingly beautiful at any time of year, Lizard Point, on the Lizard Peninsula, is the most southerly point of mainland Cornwall and is almost surrounded by sea. The village of Lizard is approximately half a mile from the point. The warm climate has led to some of the most specialised flora of any area in Britain, especially an abundant growth of the sub-tropical vegetation the Cornish Heath. There is plenty of organic farming on the Lizard and locally grown produce or locally caught fish is served in many of the restaurants, pubs and hotels around The Lizard. Close by to the Lizard is Kynance Cove which is one of the most beautiful coves in Cornwall with waters that are crystal clear and at low water exposes a great sandy beach. No lifeguard cover and dog restrictions apply between Easter and October. The picturesque fishing village of Cadgwith, to the east of The Lizard offers a small shingle cove and is popular with walkers. Fishing trips can be arranged from here. |
