Sidmouth

Sidmouth is a small town situated on the east Devon coast approximately 15 miles south west of Exeter, set in a south facing and curving bay with the shelter of red sandstone cliffs. Originally a small fishing village, the town became a fashionable resort in the early 19th century. Nowadays the fine Georgian and Regency mansions are mostly hotels but they have not lost any of their charm. The elegant seafront frontages are central to Sidmouth’s unspoilt character, not least in summer when a riot of floral colour hangs and trails from every ledge and vantage point.

Sidmouth is perfect for families and an ideal base from which to explore. Offering clean and safe beaches and Britain's longest and most popular National Trail - The South West Coast Path. The Path is well signed and easy to follow and allows you to take in this spectacular heritage coastline that includes picturesque harbours and secret coves.

There are numerous restaurants and pubs in Sidmouth and for those that like to shop, there are many independent retailers, market stalls and a large department store, all beckon a friendly welcome that makes shopping in Sidmouth so leisurely and enjoyable.

With many attractions nearby including “The Donkey Sanctuary” which is home to around 500 donkeys set in unspoilt farmland and countryside. In August, Europe’s largest international Folk Festival comes to town with over 600 events, which include song and dance from varied ethnic origins and a torch lit procession through the town. There are also two carnivals in Sidmouth taking place in September and over Christmas.
