Attractions in Tavistock

Heather-covered moorland and deep wooded gorges, beautiful reservoirs and rocky rivers, patchwork farmland and craggy granite tors, the Dartmoor National Park covers an area of 368 square miles - the largest, and wildest, area of open country in southern England.

Departing from Okehampton, the 'Dartmoor Pony' climbs for 2 miles through scenic Devon countryside, through Estrayer Park tunnel, past open meadows, finally running alongside the workings of Meldon stone quarry to Meldon Viaduct station in the Dartmoor National Park.

The walk around Lydford Gorge is three miles long and includes some treacherous sections. But if you're prepared to get your feet a bit mucky, you'll be rewarded with some breathtaking views...and then there's the fresh air too!

Costumed staff welcome visitors to the restored port and help to transport you back to the bustling 1860s when heaps of gleaming copper ore filled the quays and a forest of ships' masts lined the river.
