Beechwood House occupies a quiet, elevated position with fine views over the town to the sea. The house is set in more than 2 acres of gardens and woodland bordering the lovely National Trust owned Torrs area of North Devon, with stunning and dramatic coastline for you to enjoy. Built in 1883 as a Victorian gentleman's residence, the property has fine period features which together with modern comforts and facilities creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Ideally situated to enable you to enjoy the delights of the North Devon coast and countryside from spectacular cliff scenery, to the rugged beauty of Exmoor. Immediately beyond the grounds lies the coastal path leading you westward to the lovely village of Lee, nestling in the delightful and aptly named Fuschia Valley. Further west, with the Island of Lundy and the Welsh coast clearly visible in the distance, the path brings you to the villages of Mortehoe and Woolacombe, with miles of golden sandy beaches. It is a short walk (15 minutes) to the small historic town of Ilfracombe with its fascinating harbour offering boating and fishing trips, quaint pubs, numerous restaurants including the new Damian Hirst restaurant, theatre, beach and picturesque rocky coves. The activities available locally are many and varied, including golf, horse riding and pony trekking, water sports and excellent river and sea fishing. A little further afield there are many fine gardens and country houses to explore, excellent shopping in the ancient market town of Barnstaple, and of course, the natural beauty of North Devon itself, recently recognised by UNESCO in granting World Biosphere Reserve Status, which is the only one in the UK.
