There is a wide choice of beaches if you like making sandcastles, surfing, rockpool investigating or just sitting and relaxing. If you enjoy a game of golf or would like to try, there are several courses to choose from. Riding stables are also available in the area offering rides for all, no matter if it is your first time on horseback or if you are experienced. The irresistible and unique fishing village of Clovelly, with its steep stepped cobbled streets and quaint harbour, is just down the road and there are many unusual local attractions such as The Milky Way, The Big Sheep, and Dartington Crystal. The port town of Bideford ,situated beside the River Torridge, has a variety of shops, restaurants, pubs and a good park where children can play on the various equipment or paddle in the paddling pool. Try the pitch and putt, or kick a ball. Bideford also has a twice weekly produce market and weekly open air market.
There are several indoor swimming pools in the area at Northam, Torrington and Barnstaple. Bude also has a indoor fun pool with wave machine and water shute plus other fun activities. Barnstaple's leisure centre offers a wide variety of indoor sports including squash, badminton and table tennis, not to mention a fitness room. The seaside town of Bude remains a popular seaside resort and offers a sandy beach with a sea water swimming pool, shops and a cinema providing children's films daily. Around the banks of the canal there is putting and crazy golf, amusement arcades, tennis courts and lots of restaurants where children are welcome.
