The popular market towns of Bideford and Barnstaple, with their pannier markets are also close by, offering good pubs, shops and restaurants. Close by is the fishing village of Appledore full of old world charm and famous for its arts, crafts and maritime heritage. Clovelly is also well worth a visit, with its steep, stepped, cobbled streets leading down to a pretty harbour. The village of Northam itself offers an excellent pub, village shop and a fantastic restaurant. Alternately just sit and relax on the decked area with a good book and a glass of wine.
