Bovey Tracey

One of the main gateway towns to Dartmoor, the delightful town of Bovey Tracey offers a fine mixture of shops and a variety of visitor attractions. Situated on the River Bovey, this small town is home to the internationally renowned Devon Guild of Craftsmen, the southwest’s leading craft education centre.

Being close to Dartmoor, Bovey Tracey is an excellent destination for walking and horse riding, with Yarner Nature Reserve and Haytor only two miles away offering an array of encapsulating views and wildlife. The area attracts many visitors who wish to seek a slower pace of life, and have time to absorb the natural beauty and friendly atmosphere offered. Whilst you’re here, take a look at the House of Marbles & Teign Valley Glass, where the finest in glass wear and games are crafted and shipped worldwide.

Take a stroll alongside the river Bovey and follow its twist and turning path through the beautiful Parke Estate Woods, or perhaps have a round of golf. With four courses located in close proximity, beginners to the more experienced players are welcome to take a shot at the sport.

Along with the serenity of Bovey Tracey, the town itself has a very colourful history. During the English civil war, the battle of Bovey heath took place between Royalist and Cromwellian soldiers, following this, a section of Bovey Heath has now been deemed a ‘scheduled ancient monument’ where a number of important artefacts can still be found to this day.
