About the property

COSY BARN CONVERSION SET ON 130 ACRE CATTLE FARM. REGRET NO CHILDREN

This new barn conversion is situated on the owner's farmyard, a mile from the village of Martinstown on the outskirts of Dorchester, noted as being home and inspiration to the author Thomas Hardy whose novels Tess of the d'Urbervilles and The Mayor of Casterbridge were both based on the town.

In 1833 the Tolpuddle Martyrs formed their Friendly Society of Agricultural Labourers and were later arrested and tried in the Shire Hall in Dorchester. This building still remains and is preserved as it was at the time. Prince Charles' purpose built village of "Poundbury" is situated to the west of the town and is visited by HRH several times a year. There is lots to see and do nearby: On the hills to the south west of the town stands Hardy's Monument, a memorial to the other local Thomas Hardy, Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy, who served with Lord Nelson. Keen walkers can walk up to the monument and on a clear day enjoy superb views of Weymouth, the Isle of Portland and Chesil Beach. The Abbotsbury Swannery is just 3 miles away, and the Jurassic Coast with its fossil rich beaches and coves is also close by. The seaside resorts of Weymouth and Portland are worth a visit and will be hosting a variety of events for the UK's 2012 Olympics.  All in all, this is an ideal base for exploring the area, attractions include Montacute House, Hardy's Cottage, Bovington Tank Museum and much more.

The well converted accommodation offers ONE bedroom: with king-size bed and door leading to a small patio and fenced gravel path. Bathroom: with shower over bath, WC and heated towel rail. Lounge/kitchen/diner: open-plan with oak laminate flooring, woodburner (first basket of fuel provided), comfy sofa and TV/DVD. Kitchen area has electric cooker, hob and hood, fridge with small freezer section, microwave and small dining table and chairs. Regret no washing machine. Outside: adjacent open-sided barn enjoys a sunny aspect with garden furniture and BBQ. Amenities: ample parking. Bed linen, towels and electric panel heater/immersion heating included. Private water supply. Please note this is a non-smoking property. Regret no pets. Regret no children. Location: beach 9.9 miles, farm shop and coffee shop 1 mile in Martinstown, and pub 1 mile.
