Dorset

Hardy’s homeland

Dorset is a small gem of a county encompassing all that is best in rural England, rolling hills, wild heaths, thatched cottages, yet the sandy beaches and fossil rich cliffs of the Jurassic coastline offer a rare geological treasure.

The handsome stone built town of Sherborne, with its magnificent Abbey church, offers delightful and varied shopping, hand crafted goods and elegant fashions. It’s also home to many fine art and antiques shops.

Perched on a hill high above Dorset’s gentle Blackmore Vale, Shaftesbury is one of England’s most scenically located and charming historic market towns. Home to one of the most famous cobbled streets ‘Gold Hill’ it offers a wealth of traditional shops, regular markets, second hand book & antique shops.

The picturesque seaside town, Lyme Regis, has a narrow tangle of streets and shops that lead to the famous 13th Century Cobb Harbour. Perfect location for fossil hunting!

Weymouth varies from a rich heritage heartland with historical buildings and Georgian seafront, to a bustling modern town with quaint side streets of traditional pubs, contemporary bars and cafes. With a variety of places to visit and over 200 year-round events, there is something to suit everyone!

A variety of beaches on the south coast make this the perfect choice for a traditional seaside holiday. Swanage with its gently shelving award winning beach and Victorian Pier is also popular for fishing. Fabulous views across to The Needles and beyond. The bustling quay and stunning natural harbour of Poole, together with spectacular beaches makes this a top resort for all the family. Renowned for its seven miles of golden beaches and beautiful parks and gardens, Bournemouth blends the contemporary with the traditional to ensure you are truly spoilt for choice.

The historic market town of Wimborne nestles peacefully on the water meadows of the River Stour. Explore the many narrow streets, delightful squares and courtyards that are home to the colourful Folk Festival, the largest event of its kind in southern England.
The New Forest is a beautifully preserved corner of the English countryside and the forest towns and villages retain a charm all of their own. Famous for wild ponies, it is also popular for walking, riding and cycling. A truly unique experience.
