Dog Friendly Beaches

The huge expanse of sandy beach at Sandymouth in North Cornwall welcomes dogs year round. Easily accessible with good parking and facilities, this is a great spot for a long leisurely walk or a fun-filled day at the beach. Coastal walks along the cliff path in both directions can also be accessed from Sandymouth.

In West Cornwall, head for Kennack Sands. Located near Helston and just a short drive from the Lizard, this wide sandy beach has rock pools, access to the Cornish Coast Path and good facilities. East of the beach is open to dogs all year round, while the west beach has restrictions between April and October.

The sand and pebble expanse of Towan Beach on the Roseland Peninsula, South Cornwall welcomes dogs throughout the year. The beach is backed by low cliffs and beautiful open countryside, ideal for further walks.

Westward Ho! in North Devon is doggy heaven, offering miles and miles of open sand to run on, shallow water to swim in and a fresh water tap to drink from at the end of a long walk. Even when restrictions are in place during the summer months, there is still a huge area of beach for dogs to enjoy.

East Portlemouth on the Salcombe Estuary in South Devon is made up of many beaches and coves, which link together at low tide making a lovely walk and dogs are welcome year round. Stunning scenery, gorgeous white sand and good facilities make this a top destination for you and your faithful companion.

Exmouth’s wide golden sands provide plenty of space and calm, shallow waters for an active day at the beach. Situated on the east coast of Devon, the nearby town and beach front offer good facilities for visitors. Some seasonal dog restrictions apply to parts of the beach, but other sections are accessible all year round

Part of a seven mile stretch of sand running from Burnham-on-Sea to Brean Down, Berrow Beach is one of Somerset’s most picturesque beaches. Its flat wide sands, backed by sand dunes, make it a very pleasant area for walking. Avoid the shoreline at low tide where a dangerous area of soft sand and mud is exposed.

Between Christchurch and Highcliffe, Highcliffe Castle beach in Dorset is a lovely open sandy beach accessed by steps or slope from the castle grounds on the cliff above. Its sheltered position offers safe swimming and dogs are welcome at all times.
