Romantic West Country Walks

Walking in Cornwall

For romantic places to walk in Cornwall you’re spoilt for choice; from its dramatic coastline to ancient fishing villages there’s plenty of places to explore with your loved one. For those wanting to enjoy a dusky stroll along one of the South West’s most beautiful shore-lines, you can’t go wrong with Sennen Beach.

Located at the tip of the rugged West Cornish coast and in an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, its gorgeous white sands stretch for miles and offer the perfect location for a romantic beach walk. Enjoy a bite to eat at one of the local cafes before strolling along the beach and catching a dramatic sunset over the sea.

Dartmoor National Park

Devon walks offer rugged beauty and spectacular scenery and for the most atmospheric of promenade’s Dartmoor National Park offers a tranquil setting for many enjoyable walks. An area that’s brimming with myths and legends, Dartmoor’s wild beauty has inspired many novels and poems; for romantics and literary lovers alike it’s the perfect place to experience the West Country’s awe-inspiring surroundings.

Starting at Fingle Bridge, a pleasant walk will take you to Castle Drogo and Sharp Tor, allowing you to enjoy the scenic countryside and view the castle before finishing at the Fingle Bridge Inn for a cosy meal and a drink in front of a log fire. Alternatively, Yes Tor might be the perfect point to aim for if a proposal is on the cards!

Somerset perfect setting for gentle romantic walks

The Somerset Levels provide an ideal setting for gentle, romantic walks, with a network of easy paths and trails leading through stunning countryside rich in wildlife and flowers. A good place to discover the Levels is by starting out from Kingsbury Episcopi and following the River Parrett Trail past Thorney Mill towards Langport.

Wander for as long as you like before doubling back and heading for refreshments at the Whyndam Arms in Kingsbury Episcopi. A visit in the autumn offers one of nature’s most magnificent spectacles, as you can witness the amazing murmurations of Starlings weaving their way through the sky.

Dorset and East Devon

Dorset is the county that inspired Thomas Hardy to write such heartfelt words, its rolling hills and historical villages are the perfect destination for a romantic get-away, whilst nearby East Devon’s world famous Jurassic Coast offers many beautiful walks along its 95 miles.

This UNESCO world heritage site has walks of various levels and lengths to suits all abilities, so it’s really just a case of picking a section that appeals to you. If you’ve never visited this stunning stretch of coastline before, then a walk from picturesque Lulworth Cove to Durdle Door is a wonderful introduction, taking in two of the Jurassic Coast’s best known features.
