Barton Court (BCOUR) in Burrington, Devon is a detached barn conversion situated within the owner’s working farm. With enough room to sleep 10, open fire and safe, enclosed garden, it’s the perfect holiday destination for a group holiday. For kids, there’s plenty of exciting activities on offer, including the chance to tend to the Devon Red cattle, witness lamb births and pet and groom the miniature Shetland ponies. And with the opportunity to spot some of Devon’s native wildlife, including badgers, foxes and barn owls, there’s plenty of farm life to keep the whole family entertained. Enjoy a guided tour of the farm at Farringdon Hill Farm Cottage (FARRI) and if the season’s right, acquaint yourself with the cows and calves or watch the cattle being milked. Taste the simple life in Somerset and get a flavour of what life is like on a working farm, as children can collect the eggs daily, whilst you enjoy the freshest of breakfasts! The rest of the county can be explored within easy reach and with fun days out at Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole, you won’t be short of activities to enjoy. And with up to two dogs welcome, there’s no need to leave any family members behind.
For a holiday packed with family-friendly features, Scrumpy Cottage (SCRUM) in West Cornwall offers an abundance of different activities that are sure to keep the whole party busy. For horse lovers, there are riding stables on-site, with qualified instructors on hand to give lessons both on site and on hacks and beach rides. Children can experience first-hand, what it’s like to own a pony as they can even help out with the grooming and mucking out, whilst pets’ corner gives children a chance to meet and enjoy pigs, sheep and chickens up close. Worthen Farm Cottage (WORCO) offers an idyllic location for families and fishing fans alike. This beautifully renovated and charming old cottage sleeps four and has been thoughtfully renovated, retaining many of its original features. Attached to a working cattle farm, visitors can arrange to view the farm and meet the resident animals, including cows, chickens, horses and sheep. For children there’s the added entertainment of a safe play area located on site and for those who wish to try their hand at fishing, the Tamar Fishing Lake is conveniently situated just two fields away.
