Wind your way through the paths that once carried the weight of barrows of fish and get a sense of the rich history of this ancient fishing port. Once a vibrant area rife with smugglers, Polperro is now a relaxing haven for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life in a destination that looks like it's stood still in time.
Steeped in folk history and many tales of 'free traders' who dodged custom men's muskets, what now remains are characterful cellars loaded up with local crafts and art. The village also boast of some fantastic restaurants, offering a wide range of local ales and dishes…and of course, fresh fish!
Today Polperro's harbour is still full of colourful boats; it remains a working fishing port and visitors can enjoy pleasure cruises, which can be organised at the quayside. Keen walkers might like to take to the cliff path and explore the unspoilt beauty of Talland and Lantivet Bay. Cars are not allowed in the village and must be left at the car park (which is a mile away) but a milk float ride and traditional horse and carriage ride can be arranged.
