Helston is now a popular tourist resort with many nearby attractions, superb scenery, sandy beaches and unexplored coves nearby. There are plenty of good restaurants and country pubs to enjoy and you will find it a perfect base from which to explore West Cornwall.
Located in the town itself you will find the Blue Anchor, originally a rest haven for monks. Now a tavern since the 15th century, the local strong brew of Spingo can be savoured here.
Slightly to the West of Helston the parkland of the Penrose Estate offers some beautiful woodland walks. The World Heritage site of Poldark Mine, situated in the nearby Wendron Valley is another good family day out. There are many hands-on activities to enjoy as well as a tour of the most atmospheric mine in Britain.
