St Agnes Museum contains a fascinating array of artefacts about the varied history of the area’s mining and seafaring heritage. Local legends tell of ghosts haunting the old mines and there is a cave accessible at low tide from nearby Chapel Porth where you will find disused mine workings.
The beaches in and around St Agnes are varied. Trevaunance, locally known as Aggie beach, is a sandy beach but completely covered at high tide. Chapel Porth beach is fairly rural and unspoilt and at low water you can walk to the next beach of Porthtowan, which is great for surfing. Trevellas Porth is mainly pebbles and swimming is not recommended although when the sea is calm then this beach offers good snorkelling and fishing.
St Agnes is the ideal location for those who enjoy walking. Whether short or long walks, coastal or inland, moderate or challenging, St Agnes can provide all of these, as well as spectacular scenery along the way. There are a number of designated National Trust walks as well as some adventurous off-the-beaten-track routes though woodland and valleys.
