Barnstaple is the first town to celebrate borough status, and has a wealth of history and tradition, which can be seen at the Heritage Centre or Museum in the town. A popular market centre, with a plentiful supply of high street stores, boutiques and a traditional pannier market, where traders flock to sell anything from meat and locally made cheeses to hand-made crafts and antiques. Butchers Row is also a traditional row of butchers and fishmongers, proudly displaying their wares.
Entertainment comes in many forms, from the local Theatre, and multi-screen cinema, to the abundant pubs, clubs and restaurants found throughout the centre. The North Devon Leisure Centre is located just over the historical 14th century Long Bridge, as is the Tarka Tennis Centre, boasting modern facilities and 12 courts in all.
Barnstaple Station is a starting point for the Tarka Trail, a safe and scenic cycle path that stretches for miles, for the more energetic. And being located near the North Devon Link Road, makes this the perfect locale to explore the coastal regions of North Devon, or beyond.
