Bideford holidays

Once home to Charles Kingsley, the famous author, and known as the “Little White Town” this charming port and market town has a wealth of shops and a famous pannier market, where locals sell their delicious home grown produce, and arts and crafts.

Wander along the impressive Quay, taking in the stunning riverside views, admiring the Kathleen & May, one of the last triple-masted schooners moored on the River Torridge. Or stroll through the narrow lanes, browsing the boutiques and high street shops at your leisure.

About Bideford

Bideford

This bustling market town is situated on the River Torridge, and has a fascinating history, dating back to the 15th century, when this settlement was one of the largest ports in the country. The quayside has been recently modernised, and is where you can hop aboard the Oldenburg for trips to Lundy Island, a beautiful nature reserve with unique flora and fauna. Crossing the Long Bridge will take you to the Kathleen and May, a lovingly restored schooner, moored at the Wharf alongside the river. You can also gain access to the Tarka Trail from this side of Bideford, a safe and scenic cycle path through the Torridge Valley.

The town itself is home to many boutiques and high street stores, and Victoria Park at the end of the Quay is a wonderful expanse of green, with children’s play area and small paddling pool, perfect to cool off in on those hot summer days! Later in the evening, relax and unwind in one of the many restaurants or bistros scattered around the town, with a diverse choice of foods.

The coastal villages of Westward Ho! and Appledore are just a short drive away, and being situated just off the North Devon Link Road, gives easy access to a variety of favoured attractions.
