This traditional market town is full of life and character, and has many recreational activities, including an 18-hole golf course, large leisure centre with swimming pool, a large expanse of park with bowling green and tennis courts, and the nearby Tamar Lakes, where fishing and sailing are popular pastimes.
There are also many natural attractions close by, the beautiful rocky cliffs of the Hartland Peninsula, the glorious sandy beaches at Bude and the heather strewn moors of Bodmin and Dartmoor, where wildlife, flora and fauna are abundant, and can be photographed or drawn in their natural environment.
Back in the town square, you can visit the local Museum where the rural way of life is showcased, or view one of the largest cattle markets, mingling with locals who come to meet friends and swap stories as they have for many, many years. Traditional inns and welcoming cafes can also be found, where locally sourced food is served, together with a locally produced ale or crisp cider.
