Lynton

Lynton & Lynmouth holidays

Linked by the famous Cliff Railway, Lynton is perched at the top of the gorge and Lynmouth below at the mouth of the River Lyn, a striking backdrop to the beauty of Exmoor and a stunning place to explore. Famous for its Valley of the Rocks, a fabulous rocky formation, and splendid walks can be experienced amongst the flora and fauna.

You can take a leisurely stroll around the quaint gift shops and tea rooms, and visit one of the local artist’s studios, to watch them at their work. And why not take a ride on the cliff railway, with a vertical height of 500 feet, and where you can take in the breath-taking views of the village, harbour and beyond.

About Lynton & Lynmouth

Lynmouth

On the edge of Exmoor lie the villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, known as “Little Switzerland”, and famed for its devastating flood in 1952. The villages are joined by the famous cliff railway, a Victorian vertical train that transports you to the top of the tree-clad cliffs, and boasting fantastic views of the harbour, not to be missed.

One attraction to be viewed is the Valley of the Rocks, a spectacular craggy gorge, where over thousands of years the elements have worn away the rock into curious formations, a popular trek with ramblers and hikers who love this tranquil part of the area.

A short walk to the small shingle beach takes you through the wonderful green expanse of park, where there are tennis courts and a small putting green for budding golfers! And back over the River Lyn via the bridge takes you to the village’s selection of gift shops, pubs and tea rooms, where you can sample a traditional Devonshire cream tea or Cornish pasty! With an abundance of things to see and do and magnificent scenery, Lynton and Lynmouth really is a little slice of heaven!
