On the edge of Exmoor lie the villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, known as “Little Switzerland”, and famed for its devastating flood in 1952. The villages are joined by the famous cliff railway, a Victorian vertical train that transports you to the top of the tree-clad cliffs, and boasting fantastic views of the harbour, not to be missed.
One attraction to be viewed is the Valley of the Rocks, a spectacular craggy gorge, where over thousands of years the elements have worn away the rock into curious formations, a popular trek with ramblers and hikers who love this tranquil part of the area.
A short walk to the small shingle beach takes you through the wonderful green expanse of park, where there are tennis courts and a small putting green for budding golfers! And back over the River Lyn via the bridge takes you to the village’s selection of gift shops, pubs and tea rooms, where you can sample a traditional Devonshire cream tea or Cornish pasty! With an abundance of things to see and do and magnificent scenery, Lynton and Lynmouth really is a little slice of heaven!
