Noss Mayo

Noss Mayo holidays

A beautiful, unspoilt area, Noss Mayo is a favourite subject for artists and has been depicted in many paintings. With wooded hills sloping down to the water, pretty waterside cottages and a harbour full of sailing vessels of every shape and size, this quaint South Devon estuary is an idyllic destination for all who visit.

The geography of the Yealm estuary makes it an excellent shelter and the perfect location for water activities. Here you can enjoy sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and fishing and from the jetties, and just across the way in nearby Wembury, children can also enjoy a spot of crabbing.

About Noss Mayo

Noss Mayo

Situated 10 miles east of Plymouth, the pretty village of Noss Mayo is the perfect retreat for those in search of unspoilt beauty, with the convenience of good local amenities close by. An 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' , it's nestled along the River Yealm estuary, in an elevated position over-looking stunning views of the South Hams; an area popular with artists who enjoy capturing its unspoilt surroundings.

Enjoy walks along the coastal path and take in panoramic views along the River Yealm, or take to the water and indulge in a spot of sailing, canoeing or windsurfing; watersports that are all available to book through local activity centres. Local amenities include a butcher, baker, post office and chemist.

The area's tidal creeks really form the backbone of the local community, with most neighbouring villages accessible on foot during low tide.

Nearby Wembury is well known for its surfing and rock-pooling. A conservation area, the Wembury Marine Centre is situated there and is run by the Devon Wildlife Trust, helping to educate the general public on how to protect and preserve the rock-pools and other local wildlife. In the Summer, basking sharks have been spotted near the Mewstone.
