About Seaton

Seaton

With its mile long, family-friendly pebble beach, East Devon resort, Seaton also offers a range of fantastic activities for water sport enthusiasts; from sailing to swimming and windsurfing, there's plenty to try and enjoy. For those who want to indulge in more land based activities, you can embark on both gentle and challenging walks along the beautiful heritage coastline of the Jurassic Coast.

The Axemouth Undercliff is featured in many 'best walks' books and is perfect for seasoned walkers, whilst the walk from Seaton to Branscombe features breath-taking views and is ideal for novice walkers.

The area is part of the Jurassic Coastline and enjoys a rich history, dating back to Saxon times, when it was known as Fleet. During the Napoleonic wars a large fort was situated on a portion of the seafront, later replaced with a Martello tower; however, all have long since disappeared.

Seaton became a popular resort in the latter part of the 19th century. With the arrival of trains came the arrival of holidaymakers and tourism has remained its main industry.

Today Seaton can boast of many attractive draws; a beautiful location, rich history, range of activities and it also offers many convenient amenities too. There's a range of excellent pubs and inns offering tasty local dishes and ales, as well as live music at weekends. Restaurants offer a range of menu's to suit all tastes and for those who want to indulge, the local shops include many well-known high street brands and a vast amount of antique shops and galleries.
