Slapton is a village near the sea in South Devon; the nearby beach of Slapton Sands overlooks Start Bay and has a chequered and poignant history. The pebble ridge beach was the site of World War II exercises and parts of it today are designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Did you know

There is a freshwater lake nearby called Slapton Ley which is separated from the sea by just a strip of main road. It is the largest freshwater lake in the South West and has a large population of bitterns and warblers. Drive along the A379 to see this rare sight.
