About Bath

Bath

The famous Pump Rooms were completed in 1790. Adjacent, in the Church Yard is Bath Abbey, with its imposing West Front. Dating from the 16th century, the Abbey was constructed to replace the ruinous Norman Cathedral. The Abbey contains some particularly fine stained glass, and superb fan vaulting. The Church Yard itself attracts street entertainers such as juggler’s. Although Bath is best to explore on foot, you might choose to take an official tour in an open topped bus complete with an informed guide and commentary. Why not take a cruise along the River? Boats leave regularly from the steps below the famous Pulteney Bridge.

When it comes to shopping, it's a case of quantity and quality. It's a shoppers paradise - in addition to all the familiar names and big stores there's a fabulous choice of smaller specialist and independent shops, all wrapped up in a compact, visitor-friendly centre that's a delight to explore. There is numerous side alleys crammed with yet more shops.

Bath is a centre for sport excellence where fans can indulge in rugby, football and cricket! Enjoy a day at the races at Bath Racecourse, the highest in the land, or visit the internationally famed horse trials at Badminton close by. The Bath Fringe Festival is at the beginning of June with the Film Festival normally in the last two weeks of October.
