Long sandy beaches and coastal resorts contrast the dramatic rocky coastline of neighbouring Exmoor. Burnham on Sea is one of those coastal resorts, unique for it’s very distinctive nine legged lighthouse and seven miles of sandy beach. The lovely promenade that overlooks Bridgewater Bay has stunning views as far as Wales, across the Bristol Channel. Burnham itself is a thriving market town with a mix of high street stores and some interesting little traditional shops. With plenty of fish and chip shops and ice cream vendors it is the picture of a traditional seaside holiday resort with donkey rides, a jetty for launching boats, and pier pavilion. There are eight beaches all within half an hour’s drive of Burnham offering plenty of water sports and other activities including sand yachting, kite flying, donkey rides, fishing and golf. The seven mile stretch of sandy beach along Burnham is great for families and is patrolled by lifeguards. Dog restrictions are in place. Berrow & Brean beaches are very sandy and backed by dunes. Dogs are welcome on these beaches. There are scores of great places to eat in Burnham-On-Sea to suit every taste. Choose from English, French, Italian, Chinese or Indian. A complete guide to restaurants, cafes and take-aways is available. There are lots to see in and around Burnham such as Brean Leisure Park a fun park with 40 rides and attractions with something for all the family. Brean Down Fort, Brent knoll & Stert Island are all close by. The fascinating caves of the Cheddar Gorge are only half an hour away and Burnham is also within easy reach of Bath with all its attractions. |
