Based in the sleepy village of Middleton, Stowe Cottage is a charming and super dog-friendly cottage, offering a cosy and stylish interior, plus you have access to your own private hot tub. With two pubs nearby to choose from, this cottage couldn’t be more idyllic. We recommend popping into the quiet and friendly Rising Sun Middleton for a pint and some home-cooked food, and plan for one of their live events!

This traditional, country pub is packed with olde-worlde character, and boasts a fantastic selection of real ales, lagers, wines, and other drinks. You'll regularly find they run event nights as well as offering local produce markets from throughout the Peak District region.

Treleaven Farmhouse, South Cornwall

Sleeping 18, Treleaven Farmhouse boasts a prime location within the picture-postcard village of Mevagissey. With beautiful sea views, the property offers great facilities and is within walking distance of many nautical pubs. The Ship Inn is a regular haunt for locals and was a popular pitstop for smugglers in years gone by too. There are plenty of nooks and crannies to find a quiet spot with a local real ale from the St Austell Brewery.

This family-friendly 17th-century thatched inn has two bars boasting wooden beams throughout. There's an extensive menu of home-cooked food, and for warmer days, there's a tiered garden out the back as well as further seating to the front by the quiet road. Your walk will be ever so slightly longer, but all the more time to build up a thirst.

This unconventional micropub has a single room and can house 25 people - perfect if you're a couple trying to squeeze in for a much-needed drink. They have six handpumps serving different varieties of beers from small West Country brewers, which get changed every few days. Kite Hall in Mid Wales is one to visit for a grand stay. Magnificently refurbished, this 5-star property is surrounded by a 2-acre arboretum to wander and a hot tub to relax in before heading mere metres to the Brigands Inn.

Wyandotte, North Yorkshire

Wyandotte is a lovingly converted barn perched upon Sinderby village green. This luxury home keeps all of its northern character, displaying exposed beams, a calming interior and a spa bath. Walk just 1 mile to the local pub, The Nag's Head.

It's not every day you find a traditional country pub that is also a Cantonese restaurant, but what a combination! If you just fancy a drink, there is a separate bar with various beers on offer, but we highly recommend sampling some of the authentic Cantonese cuisine, which is also available as a takeaway from Wednesday to Saturday in the evenings.

Rosemary Cottage, Whorlton, County Durham

Due to its central location, Ingle Apartment in Edinburgh is surrounded by lovely pubs. Enjoy the local feel at The Windsor or have pie and chips for a lunchtime meal at Jeremiah’s Taproom. However, we've chosen the Joker & the Thief as it offers a little more in the way of entertainment. Return home in the wee hours to this bright and airy apartment for a city break like no other.

Supporting smaller Scottish breweries such as Cross Borders, Joker & the Thief serves good beer and hosts a quiz night every Wednesday evening. Whilst you're waiting for the questions to begin, order a pizza from the local pizzeria and have it delivered to the pub. They also have chess and dominos available to whittle away the hours.

Anchorage View, Argyll and Bute

Occupying an enviable position on the north-west edge of Loch Sween, Anchorage View is a boat lover's paradise. Enjoy the open fire of this detached bungalow or the patio overlooking the loch, and when you're ready, make the ever-so-short journey to The Tayvallich Inn, the hub of this small but spirited community.
