The best restaurants in Filey

An interior black and white view of San Marco and a plate of Italian bruschetta

San Marco

As one of the best Italian restaurants in Filey, San Marco offers traditional dishes in a classic Italian-style setting. With exposed brick walls and paintwork that you might find in any restaurant from Milan to Naples, this fine Italian establishment welcomes everyone from large groups to couples looking for a romantic evening.

As places to eat in Filey go, it’s up there with the best and serves traditional Italian drinks as well as local spirits like Filey Gin. If you can’t get enough of pizza and pasta, head over to their sister restaurant, La Gondola.

Location: 13 Murray St, Filey YO14 9DA

The Glass House at Charlottes

Head to one of the best dog-friendly restaurants in Filey and experience a little more than just a meal. Combining two former businesses (The Bronte Vinery, and Charlottes of Filey), the owners created the Glass House at Charlottes.

Boasting the second-oldest grapevine in the UK, you can rest assured that your wine accompaniment is going to be top-notch, and while you’re there, you must ask about their literary links to Charlotte Bronte and J.R. Tolkien. Choose from the newly renovated restaurant, the intimate cocktail lounge or the unique space beneath the grapevine (the latter two both welcome dogs).

Location: 40 Belle Vue Street, Filey, YO14 9HY

Why not try: Glasshouse fish chowder

Stay nearby: South Crescent | Sleeps 4 + 3 dogs

Inghams Fish Restaurant

If you want the best fish and chips in Filey, you must make a beeline for Inghams Fish Restaurant. Filey is a classic seaside resort so it’s only proper to seek out the local catch and serve it with piping-hot, freshly cooked chips. You can head inside to the licensed restaurant or if you prefer to feel the sand beneath your toes as you’re tucking in, take advantage of their takeaway service.

If you happen to be with someone who doesn’t like fish and chips (crazy, we know!), fear not as there are other options on the menu including lasagne and battered sausage. And your meal can be washed down with an ice-cold glass of prosecco, wine or beer – there really is nothing better!

Location: 38a Belle Vue Street, YO14 9HY

Why not try: Special haddock and chips

A Chinese pork meal in a white bowl, and friends sharing Chinese food with chopsticks

Golden Dragon

Despite being on holiday, sometimes you really fancy the comforts you’re used to having back home. And one of those, if you’re anything like us, is a Friday night Chinese. Whether it’s a sit-in affair or a takeaway in front of your favourite film, it matters not as long as there are free prawn crackers.

Also, it’s good to see how a different part of the country does your favourite dishes and find out if there’s a twist you weren’t aware of. So for these extremely valid reasons, you should book into one of the best Chinese restaurants in Filey, the Golden Dragon. They do an all-you-can-eat menu throughout the week so make sure you skip lunch.

Location: 7 Union Street, Filey, YO14 9DZ

Why not try: Sweet and sour king prawn balls Hong Kong style

With stylish, Indian-themed interior decor and fantastic online reviews, Monsoon is a treat for more than one of the senses. All the food is cooked to order and they are a bring-your-own-alcohol restaurant meaning you can drink exactly what you want and it’ll even save you a bit of money. They still serve coffee and soft drinks though so not to worry.

Piebald Inn

As there are so many vast, green pastures in and around the Filey area, it’s easy to find good country pubs near Filey. One of the best is the Piebald Inn in nearby Hunmanby. As you may gather from the name, this pub is well known for its pie menu that includes a few award winners. In fact, there are 52 pies available so if you decide to have a (very) long holiday away, you could have a different one for every week of the year.

There are plenty of other foodie options on the menu too and plenty of social spaces if you just fancied a drink. The terrace is perfect for when the Yorkshire sun is shining and the dining room is great if you’re after something a little more intimate. Dogs are invited into the bar area and there’s even a patio with a landscaped garden where you can enjoy some fresh air with your pint.

Should you want to paddle in the water with the kids after your meal or go on a Yorkshire countryside stroll, you’ll be perfectly placed. Speaking of children, this family-friendly inn is probably your best bet when it comes to entertaining the little ones.

The Cheeky Monkeys play area comprises 121mof soft play with a corner with toys and a dressing-up station. If the weather is fine, there’s a play park in the beer garden with plenty of exciting equipment. There’s a quiz every Saturday afternoon if your brain is as thirsty for knowledge as your palate is for their excellent selection of beers, wines and spirits. Other places to eat in Filey

A beautiful lady holds a guitar outside a cafe, and a photo of eggs Benedict with avocado in the background

Thirty Coffee Shop

This cafe in Filey is a far cry from the greasy spoon establishments we sometimes conjure up when we think of grabbing breakfast or lunch on a British seaside holiday. From their specials which might include mushroom and halloumi on toasted sourdough with poached eggs to their homemade traybakes, Thirty Coffee Shop is a cut above the rest.

The cafe’s proximity to Filey Beach means it’s convenient for grabbing takeaway food and drinks to share on the sand during a day of North Yorkshire sunshine. But Thirty is also open in the evening on occasion; as part of the Filey Americana Festival, the cafe welcomes alternative music artists and award-nominated folk songwriters from across the pond.

Location: 30 Belle Vue Street YO14 9HY

Why not try: Eggs Benedict followed by pancakes

Stay nearby: Seabreeze | Sleeps 6 + 2 dogs

The Coffee Shed

Taking its name quite literally, The Coffee Shed has lovely touches of wood throughout. Centrally located in Filey, the cafe serves up freshly ground barista coffee with a smile, alongside homemade cakes, fresh sandwiches and breakfasts using ingredients from local suppliers.

Pop along for a milkshake and a toastie on the go or settle down to a full English and a speciality coffee. The staff continually receive plaudits for their friendliness and your four-legged friends are just as welcome as you are… if not more so!

A DJ plays some vinyl, and a flat lay of charcuterie, fruit and olives

Captain Will’s

It seems as though the locals of Filey enjoy a bit of live music as so many of the establishments we visited promote local talent. Captain Will’s is no different with DJ sets and live bands paving the way for excellent weekends just metres from the beach.

This cafe/bar also has a vested interest in the local sea cadets, often putting on events and fundraisers to help the national youth charity. Captain Will’s is the kind of place you could enjoy for the entire day, savouring their cakes and barista concoctions in the coffee lounge before treating yourself to a pizza or their renowned cheese and charcuterie board in the evening.
