At holidaycottages.co.uk HQ, we’re totally, completely and hopelessly overjoyed with the return of our favourite, endearingly imperfect, awkward and loveable, infamous singleton, Bridget Jones!

And, because we adore our Bridge, just as she is, we’ve compiled a list of our finest Bridget eras – from her full-blown romantic mini-break with the dastardly handsome Daniel Cleaver to time spent with her oldest friends debriefing about Mr Darcy.

We’ve perfectly (if not a little smugly) paired each era with one of our cottages so you too can enjoy a slice of Bridget-esque life! The newest addition to the series, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, is released this Valentine’s Day.

The exterior and lakeside views of the Writers Retreat in the Highlands.

Bridget’s ‘all by myself’ era

I will not fall for any of the following: *insert list of no-gooders here*.

Book a stay at this tastefully decorated boathouse, affectionately named Writers Retreat, overlooking Loch Ewe in the Highlands. It’s very much on the list of swoon-worthy properties with its tranquil waters, mountain views and private hot tub. And singleton or not, this abode is perfect for creative solo travellers, perhaps with a penchant for diary writing.

Climbing foliage along the exterior of Hathaway Cottage in the Cotswolds, and blankets placed on the windowsill.

Bridget’s ‘full-blown mini-break’ era

Will find nice, sensible boyfriend and stop forming romantic attachments to self-centred and charismatic boss.

Drive off into the sunset on a romantic getaway to the quintessential English village of Hook Norton with a stay at the thatched Hathaway Cottage. Just lose the smooth-talking, no-good Daniel Cleaver at the Reading Westbound services, and then you can rest easy in the characterful cottage by the crackling wood burner with mullion windows and exposed beams.

The quaint exterior, trimmed lawn and colourful garden at Rosemary Cottage in County Durham, and a platter of nibbles on the outside table.

Bridget’s ‘tarts and vicars’ era

I will not be defeated by arriving to garden party in inappropriate attire (shakes bunny tail). Instead, I choose Rosemary Cottage. And Chaka Khan.

The English cottage garden is teeming with rustic elegance and a vibrant mix of fragrant flowers. Embrace the peace and relaxation at this quaint abode, surrounded by the chirping birds and scent of fresh blooms. *Bunnies not guaranteed.

The impressive exterior of Kinnairdy Castle in Aberdeenshire, stretching over four floors, and the kitchen table set for breakfast.

Bridget’s ‘just as you are’ era

It is a truth universally acknowledged that time spent with friends is good for the soul.

So, drop a message in the group chat to your Shazza, Jude and Tom, get your bags packed, clamber into the back of the Mini and get to Kinnairdy Castle for the ultimate bestie vaycay. Dodge the blue soup at dinner and linger long into the evening around the dining table, reminiscing and snickering into the early hours.

The exterior of Erme in Devon, with a grass area and hot tub and the large, covered porch.

Bridget’s ‘festival-goer’ era

I will not only attend, but embrace my inner music goddess at music fest with bestie, Miranda.

While we can’t offer a helping of Patrick Dempsey inside this luxury safari tent located on Dartmoor National Park, we do suggest timing your stay with the nearby Plymouth Summer Sessions Music Festival, which has featured acts as big as Tom Jones and Sting in the past.

Book Erme, Devon

The cosy living area of Duckings Retreat in the Lake District, with the fountain in the courtyard.

Bridget’s ‘grown-up getaway’ era

I will not pack oversized undies for romantic weekend away with the delectable and handsome Mark Darcy. Instead, will radiate emboldened self.

Head off for a weekend with your true love to the tranquil Ducklings Retreat in the Lake District. Complete with a feature fountain in the garden (regret: not big enough for the jealous antics of two grown men therefore it will not be raining men on this mini-break).

The exterior of Clysedale Cottage in West Wales, with the table set for breakfast.

Bridget’s ‘baby break’ era

I will not shy away from motherhood. Instead, will develop inner poise and ooze a serene tranquillity.

We can’t guarantee that baby William will sleep like a dream for Bridge, but we can be sure that a break away at family-friendly Clysedale Cottage in Wales is the perfect destination with nippers in tow. The family-welcoming cottage boasts plenty of space for all the baby paraphernalia plus a very well-received welcome pack for mum and dad, as well as an onsite pool for splish-splashing around.

Book your own Bridget style-break

It may be time for the final chapter, but that doesn’t mean the credits have to roll. Take a look at our extensive collection of UK self-catering cottages (perhaps in a top filming location?) and book your next break, whether it’s an overdue reunion with friends, a family staycation or a full-blown romantic mini-break.
