As part of our commitment to making a positive impact as a business and supporting charitable organisations, we are so proud of our team’s fantastic fundraising efforts for our partnership with Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK is the world's leading independent cancer charity, and one that is close to our hearts at holidaycottages.co.uk. This is why our team, from all over the UK, has had such a busy year of fundraising and raising awareness.

Now that our partnership has come to an end, we’ll take a look back at why the Cancer Research UK partnership was so important to us, how we raised money, and how our donations will impact the charity.

Why Cancer Research UK? What was our goal?

At holidaycottages.co.uk, we strive to be better wherever we can; this means that raising money for charity and supporting the communities where our guests love to holiday is important to us.

When it came to deciding on which charity we should partner with, the answer was obvious. Cancer Research UK has touched many of our lives as a team, and the charity’s hard work and research gave us all the motivation to launch our partnership as soon as we could; we began fundraising straight away.

Our goal was to raise £10,000 for Cancer Research UK by July 2024, which would mark 12 months since the partnership launched. After an exciting year of fundraisers and spreading awareness across the UK, we are proud to announce that we exceeded our goal by raising £13,695!

Our team’s fantastic fundraising

As soon as we launched the partnership with Cancer Research UK, we were blown away by our team’s efforts. From our various offices to remote-working team members scattered across the UK, the eagerness to start raising money and awareness was amazing.

Fifty members of the team started by joining the Steps Challenge 2023, aiming to walk an impressive 384,339 steps each through August – an important figure that represents the number of people who are diagnosed with cancer every year across the UK. Through walking, running, dancing, training and many other innovative ways, we were delighted to see the team smash the challenge.

In between our larger events, our offices were also abuzz with various fundraisers throughout the year. From Stand Up To Cancer Bake Offs, virtual quizzes, clothes donations, car washes, fantasy football leagues, a Spare Change Challenge and plenty more, the fundraiser diary was jam-packed.

We were also proud to see individuals from across the team plan their own challenges and other ways of increasing awareness. From daily 100 push-up challenges to muddy obstacle runs and long-distance Races For Life, the effort was truly inspiring.

How our fundraising will impact Cancer Research UK

To mark the end of our partnership with Cancer Research UK, we were excited to welcome the charity’s Relationship Manager, Kim Hammerton, who spoke all about the important ways in which our fundraising supports the world’s leading independent cancer charity.

Our fundraising has contributed towards the charity’s research, which is aimed at understanding, preventing and treating cancer. This involves scientific research in laboratories, universities and medical institutions across the UK, covering a wide range of cancer types, as well as working towards early detection, prevention, new treatments and clinical trials.

Beyond the research, fundraising also contributes to raising awareness of the risks of cancer and encouraging healthy lifestyle choices to prevent the disease. Funds also help to provide information and support services to cancer patients and their families, helping them through their journey with the disease.
