National Trust 125 years

Throughout our Dreaming of the Great British Outdoors series, we have been celebrating how getting outdoors has the potential to inspire us, boost our well-being and provide us with a sense of wonder. And in 2020, the National Trust is celebrating 125 years of protecting many of these valuable places across the UK that we all get so much pleasure from.

Beginning with 5 acres of land at Dinas Oleu in Wales in 1895, the National Trust today cares for over 500 places, 250,000 hectares of land, 180 parks and gardens, and 780 miles of coastline. It has also amassed 5.6 million members who agree with the founding idea that green places should “be kept for the enjoyment, refreshment, and rest of those who have no country house”.

To commemorate 125 years of the National Trust preserving the nation’s special places “for everyone, for ever”, we have selected the very best historic homes, areas of countryside and beaches across the country from the very north of England to the southern tip of Cornwall.

Wherever you’re visiting in Great Britain, find some inspiration for your next day out and help preserve our country’s most special places at the same time.
