Peak District

Top Tack, near Chapel-en-le-Frith

One of three cottages with stables nestled in the heart of the Peak District countryside, Top Tack enjoys spectacular views, an abundance of walks and riding trails on the doorstep, and 40 acres of land for your equine friend to graze.

Offering a range of facilities, including nine stables shared between the three cottages on the complex, you can easily saddle up and discover the beauty of the national park on horseback. Imagine cantering across wild moorland, rolling hillsides peppered with stately homes, and rugged limestone dales. And when you return, this reverse-level cottage offers a cosy wood burner to unfurl beside, as well as two sumptuous bedrooms and a beautiful garden that overlooks the valley.

  • 9 stables: £25 per stable/per night
  • DIY livery
  • 40 acres of land for grazing (shared with other horses on site)
  • Option for grazing only: £13 per horse

Lincolnshire

Pied Wagtail Cottage

Pied Wagtail Cottage, near Louth

Sleeps 4 | 2 dogs | 3 horses

Part of a complex of three holiday cottages with horse stables in 6 acres of grounds, this is the perfect retreat to discover the green lanes and gentle hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds. In addition to the many local bridlepaths, you can gallop through the surf along the county’s pristine coastline, around 12 miles away.

When it comes to places to stay with your horse, Pied Wagtail Cottage is well equipped, with a choice of three stables shared between the cottages, a large field for grazing, and a tack room with a small kitchen. There’s even a picnic field and a special dog paddock if you’re planning on bringing the canine members of your family along too.

Facilities:

  • 3 stables: £150 per stable/per week
  • Stable 1 is 12 x 16ft, Stable 2 is 10 x 10ft, Stable 3 is 10 x 14ft
  • Field for grazing
  • DIY livery – guests would need to bring their own bedding/hay etc, but there is water on site

Wales

Hafod Cottage

Hafod Cottage, Brecon Beacons

Sleeps 3 | 2 dogs | 2 horses

Immerse yourself in the horse-friendly surroundings of the Brecon Beacons with a stay at Hafod Cottage, one of two properties that share access to two stables plus a field for turning out. This remote Welsh retreat is tucked away on a farmstead, 305 metres above sea level, meaning the views are simply mesmerising.

When you’re not riding along the ancient tracks and lanes of the national park, which thread through hills, moors and patchwork fields, or enjoying lazy pub lunches while your mount grazes outside, there is a shared indoor heated pool to plunge into at the cottage. And nothing beats a BBQ in the garden, watching the sun dip below the distant peaks.

Bryniau Pell

Bryniau Pell, Brecon Beacons

Ringed by the verdant countryside of the Brecon Beacons, Bryniau Pell is an idyllic destination for taking your equine extended family away with you. Rooted firmly in the national park on a 220-acre organic hill farm, this cottage is blessed with beautiful countryside, forests and mountains on the doorstep, scattered with paths, bridleways and quiet roads, perfect for hacking out.

As well as a wide range of on-site facilities for horses and their owners, there is a great selection of unique hands-on farm experiences to try, such as Jacob sheep trekking, plus bikes, stargazing and birdwatching equipment available for hire. After a day exploring the Black Mountains or the Fforest Fawr Geopark, this equestrian cottage is a real home from home where you can curl up in the beamed open-plan living space in front of the TV, with the wood burner casting a warm glow.

  • 16 stables varying in size (full and half partitions available): £15 per horse/per night for stable and grazing or £10 per horse/per night for grazing only
  • 50 acres of grazing

Enveloped by open fields, woodland and a babbling stream, this rural retreat allows you and your horse the freedom to take it all in at your own pace and in your own time. If you would like to experience the thrill of beach riding, the coast is only 20 miles away.

Whilst your horse chills out in his or her stable, there are numerous options for relaxation in the cottage. Tuck into a cream tea on the patio and drink in the far-reaching countryside views, fill the bath with bubbles and delight in a soothing soak, or sink into the sofa with a paperback while the wood burner crackles away.
