There’s nothing more self-indulgent than a dip in a hot tub. As far as weekend breaks go, a private hot tub is the ultimate feature for a romantic getaway.
Ever since the first hydrotherapy jets were built in 1956 by the Jacuzzi brothers, hot tubs have spiralled in popularity. The first whirlpool bath was built for Candido Jacuzzi’s son who was born with rheumatoid arthritis - proof they were created to soothe sore muscles and ensure total relaxation.
Unlike most of life’s luxuries, there is no ideal time of year to use a hot tub. It can be taken advantage of during a warm summer holiday or to treat you and your partner during the dark winter months. A hot tub is always the perfect excuse to unwind with your loved one.
Here is a list of our favourite hot tub cottages for a bit of romance. Make sure to pack the roses and champagne.
Romantic hot tub cottages
Tucked away in the mountainous Brecon Beacons is this little beauty: Ty Bach. A secluded, off-grid hideaway, it nestles on a wooded hillside, with views of a meadow and a gently babbling stream. Not only does it have a gorgeous wood-fired hot tub, but it also has an outdoor claw-foot bath on the terrace, where you can soak off the day surrounded by nature. A simple, rustic interior, wood burner and cosy mezzanine bedroom make this a wonderfully romantic cottage for a break away from the pressures of the 21st century.
The Brecon Beacons is a region of castles, many were built during the Norman Conquest and are still standing today. Climb to the top of White Castle and admire the view from its spectacular turrets or duck into the gorgeous ruins of a structure famously built for show rather than battle, Raglan Castle.
The quaint village of Hay-on-Wye is popular among literary enthusiasts and draws crowds every year for the Hay Literary Festival. No matter the time of year, you can discover new (or ancient) writers by exploring its huge range of independent bookshops.
While you’re there:
Hire a couple of canoes for a journey down the River Wye, and afterwards drop into The River Cafe in Glasbury for a delightful lunch.
What makes it special:
The privacy of the location and the simplicity of off-grid living make this the perfect place to rest and unwind with the one you love.
“This is a very special little cabin in a beautiful setting! It is off grid but has everything you need to be comfortable and even enjoy some incredible luxuries like a hot bath or hot tub outside under the stars. Just a wonderful place to spend time, slow down and connect with the land and people around you.” - Bruce
