Things to do in Dorset for 2017

It’s been an exciting year for events and festivities in Dorset and looking ahead to the New Year sees plenty more to come. Home to some of the most stunning landscapes, pretty villages and captivating things to do, we take a look at the top events throughout the region for 2017.

Wimborne Cider Festival

If you’re looking to sample some of the finest ciders in the county, a visit to the Wimborne Cider Festival is a must. You can enjoy a weekend of good music, great food and a range of tipples to sample. In your ticket price you’ll also have your first two half pints of cider included to whet your whistle.

Children and adults alike will love this display of living history at The Tank Museum. You’ll see a spectacular collection of historic armour and insightful parades including stories of the tanks, crews and soldiers. This fascinating festival celebrates and commemorates the events during the First and Second World Wars and offers an interesting heritage event for all ages.

Dorset Seafood Festival

This annual celebration of champagne, seafood and entertainment is back for its 10th year on Weymouth’s historic harbourside. The Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival is a family-friendly day out packed with tons of local foods, live cooking demonstrations and stalls with clothing, gifts and handmade trinkets.

Great Dorset Chilli Festival

For the hottest day out in Dorset, visit The Great Dorset Chilli Festival to tickle those tastebuds. This food lover’s event is a great weekend to experience the fantastic world of chilli’s including everything from purchasing pepper plants, seeds and ceramics to watching cooking demonstrations and sampling the tastiest street foods. Why not try the region’s famous Dorset Naga to see why the county is a hot spot for this flavoursome food.

The Melplash Show

Taking place on The West Bay showground in Bridport, the South West’s premier agricultural event The Melplash Show is back for its annual exhibition. This fantastic family event is packed full of local producers and farming exhibits including livestock, horses, crafts and horticulture. Other entertainment includes motorcycle stunts, hawk displays and ferret racing.

The Great Dorset Steam Fair

For families looking to enjoy an action packed day out, The Great Dorset Steam Fair is the perfect event to visit. Bournemouth Air Festival

With displays from the Red Arrows, the RAF Typhoon and many more, a visit to the incredible Bournemouth Air Festival is a must. Enjoy a seaside seat for a fantastic event perfect for the whole family. Air displays aside, the festivities continue throughout the day into the evening with marching bands, local stalls and two seafront stages with a superb line up of live musicians.
