Responsible Tourism

Here at holidaycottages.co.uk, we are on a mission to make a more positive impact on communities and the environment.

Our commitment to local communities and the environment

With over 15,000 properties across the UK and Ireland, we know that we have a responsibility to support our communities and protect the environment both now and in the future.

To us, responsible tourism is all about making a positive impact on local communities, the environment, and the economy, in a way that makes them better places to live and visit. We are on a mission to make a more positive impact by reducing our environmental footprint as a business and supporting local communities and environments through sponsorship and charitable donations.

We are excited to continue our journey of becoming a more responsible and sustainable business, and we know there is much more to be done to help preserve and protect the environment and communities, but we are committed to promoting responsible tourism to our guests and empowering our holiday homeowners to make more sustainable choices.

Below you will see some of the organisations and projects we have been supporting.

Flagship charity partners

Supporting our local food banks

In October 2024, we launched our newest fundraising and charity initiative which sees us raising funds for Trussell through a variety of fundraising events and challenges to raise money and awareness, and supporting the food banks near our offices through volunteering and food donations. We have committed to supporting our local food banks for the next 12 months and raising awareness of the work Trussell is doing to advocate for change to eliminate the need for food banks in the UK.

Raising funds for Cancer Research UK

In the summer of 2023, we partnered with Cancer Research UK, with a goal to raise £10,000 by July 2024 and raise awareness of their work as we go. As a community, many of our lives have been touched by the work of CRUK. Throughout the year, our colleagues have taken on challenges and hosted events such as a month-long walking challenge and a Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off. We are delighted to have raised over £15,000 which will support CRUK to continue to make more discoveries, drive more progress and bring more hope to all those affected by cancer.

Woodland restoration with the RSPB

Throughout 2023, holidaycottages.co.uk worked with the RSPB in its woodland restoration projects. Over the course of the year, we pledged to restore 1 square metre (m2) of British woodland for every booking made with us in 2023. By the end of the year, we were able to fund the restoration of a combined 225,772 square metres (22.5 hectares) of woodland at three key sites in the UK: RSPB Franchises Lodge in the New Forest, Gwenffrwd Dinas in Wales, and RSPB Glenborrodale in Scotland. We are proud to have renewed our support for 2024.

Partnering with the right people

We partner with national charities who educate us on the impact we have as a society on the planet, and support their initiatives to preserve and restore nature, and the landscapes and coastlines around us.

We run many fundraising events throughout the year to help raise money for charities which mean a lot to us as a business.

We directly support local organisations for the benefit of the local community, in a way which has a lasting impact.

We’re quite a forward-thinking company and there are a number of things we’re already doing at holidaycottages.co.uk in this area, such as our fleet of electric vehicles, tracking our carbon from business journeys, and upgrading our offices to higher energy efficiency standards.
