This ground-floor apartment sits 2 miles from the centre of the walled city of York and is perfect for couples wanting to explore the city and surrounding countryside.  The city is the capital of Yorkshire and offers an eclectic mix of pubs, restaurants, shops, tearooms, the infamous Minster and cobbled streets leading to many historical monuments. The apartment also has easy access for venturing further afield towards the Yorkshire coast, the Dales, visiting lovely market towns or walking in the North Yorkshire Moors. An array of National Trust properties are on the doorstep in addition to Goddards, Benningborough Hall, Dalby Forest, Go Ape and the beautiful Castle Howard.

Once a farmhouse, this conversion is contemporary, compact living at its best. Light and airy throughout, it has everything you'll need for a comfortable stay on the outskirts of a popular city. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is practical and comfortable. The double bedroom is stylish and clean, with plenty of storage and the wet room-style shower room completes the accommodation.

Outside, there is access to a shared seating area in the courtyard garden, which is lovely for a spot of al fresco dining. There is also off-road parking for one car.

We had a fantastic stay at The Shambles. It's a really cozy cottage; well equipped (inc tea and coffee). Great location - we walked into the city centre each day, which took about 30 minutes at a comfortable pace. There is a pub right next door which does good food. Definitely recommend a stay here.

The flat was well equipped and cosy for two. Bus service was convenient and lovely green areas to explore for nature walks nearby. Easy access to local interest sights. Any queries were quickly responded to. Thank you. First visit to York and loved it!

Although the cottage is on the ground floor, there are four steps to enter the building. There is no handrail to give assistance. Once in the apartment there is a change of level from the entry hall to the bedroom, living and kitchen areas. This should be made clear for those with mobility difficulties.

This is a small ground floor apartment on a main road into York with associated traffic noise. Clean tidy well equipped on bus route or easy walking distance of the City Centre.

The ground floor apartment was very well appointed with allocated offroad parking alongside.A choice of several buses from a stop nearby took us into York so we rarely needed to use the car.A perfect location for access to the city , the racecourse , Goddards (NT) across the road and the Fox and Roman on the doorstep.

The availability of one bus or another every few minutes, and the proximity of bus stops, made York so accessible. And this bright, peaceful little apartment was well-based for going further afield by car. Senior bus passes and National Trust membership were richly used. In one week: six NT properties, one just up the road; a ride on the North YorkRead more Moors steam train; the National Railway Museum; a taste of the breath-taking Dales' scenery; services in York Minster and Ripon Cathedral.
