These stunning ground floor mews cottages have been refurbished and are set within this beautiful Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offering accommodation for both families and couples in an area surrounded with spectacular walks.

Thornthwaite is a small village in the Lake District with views of Skiddaw and the cottages are close to the bustling market town of Keswick. This tranquil area is a perfect retreat for walking or cycling, a paradise for dog walkers. There are walks for everyday of the week! This area is famous not only for its lakes, forests and mountains, but also for its associations with the early 19th century poetry and writings of William Wordsworth. The properties offer you the perfect base to discover and explore the whole of the Lake District and all its attractions. Within easy reach you will find Newlands Adventure Centre, The Lakes Distillery and Go Ape Tree Top Adventures.

On entering this beautiful mews cottage, you are welcomed by a quaint open plan studio apartment space, with a comfortable lounge and gas fire and 2 comfortable armchairs to sink into. There is also a TV and DVD player to watch if you ever have enough of the beautiful views from the double doors, straight out into the garden and Skiddaw in the distance. The bedroom is in this shared area and consists of a double bed with a wardrobe and drawers for storage. The kitchen has room for 2 at the breakfast bar and is well-equipped with electric oven, hob, microwave and fridge / freezer. Going through to the light and fresh shower room and WC, this is a lovely little cottage for 2.

Outside, there is a well looked after enclosed shared garden where you can enjoy the sun go down with an alfresco tipple.

This was our third consecutive year staying at Elm Cottage. Its the perfect place to chill with lovely local walks, Rusty our fox red labrador loves walking to Bassenthwaite Lake and having a swim. We will be definitely be coming back for a visit next year.

My husband and I stayed at Elm Cittage for a week with our two springers.The cottage was cosy and comfortable for two people and two dogs. We enjoyed staying there as it is not very far from Keswick which we wanted to visit. We had a lovely coffee and cake in the Gallery which is above the cottages. This property was lovely. We enjoyed the coffee shop upstairs and the beautiful enclosed garden for our dog. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We would recommend this cottage to all our friends

Lovely clean property, great for those wanting long walks.The shared Garden with the other holiday cottages is lovely for the dogs to meet the neighbours dogs and have a play . Can be noisy in the property as there is a shop above. Pubs about an hour walk away and the town is a short drive with lots of welcoming shops. Enjoyed our stay

Great location in a quiet area with fantastic views of Skiddaw. The cottage is well equipped and very cosy. The enclosed garden is shared with other cottages but safe for our dog to use.

We enjoyed our holiday and your cottage was central to many attractions in the area. The cottage kitchen was well equipped. The garden was fully enclosed and perfect for our dog and well maintained. It was also good to see the gardener mowing the grass while we were there. The gallery had a good selection of art work, jewellery and craft objects. Elm Cottage was wonderful and in the perfect position for exploring on foot from the door and all other lakes and passes close by cat or cycle. Would return in a heartbeat. The only worry for us was the shared garden as we have two giant breed dogs and we were anxious that sharing that space with more dogs from the other cottages might be an issue.Read more However, our neighbours and their dogs were amazing. This was our third visit and we will definitely be back again. We had another fabulous holiday. It is a good place to chill out, with great walks nearby and lovely views from the dog friendly garden. Everyone locally was friendly and made us feel welcome. Braithwaite is the nearest village. There is a nice walk through the forest there. Well worth Read morea visit for the good pubs and food. Nice studios apartment, spotlessly clean on entry. Comfy bed. Could do with two new armchairs or sofa. Lovely little garden, if overused as dog toilet. Beautiful outlook onto Blencathra, especially in the evening.

Excellent location in quiet hamlet and views from inside the cottage directly to Skiddaw. Convenient for dogs with a small lawn in front and immediate access to lanes with verges outside. There are walks straight from the cottage to the local village, into Whinlatter forest or to Bassenthwaite Lake with the chance of seeing an Osprey! We had a lovely week at Thorntwaite Elm with our 2 dogs. The cottage was perfect , comfortable and extremely clean. The garden was well kept with so many birds including robins nesting in a plant pot by our door. These fledged while we were there. Thorntwaite had good walks from the door, but only 5 minutes from Keswick. So the best of both worlds.Read more We will definitely be back. Hide

Elm Cottage apartment is great for a couple or a single occupant. We had two dogs who had easy access via the large patio doors to the secure garden. The view from the seating area is excellent with the mountains beyond. Red squirrels and a variety of birds, including a woodpecker came to visit. Our cottage was small and compact with a well equipped kitchen, nice shower, and separate toilet. The cottage had everything you needed, was lovely and warm, the bed and pillows comfortable, with a fantastic view of the mountains, a nice enclosed garden for the dogs, they loved it, and were very spoilt.

Really lovely cottage, just a few minutes drive to Keswick. Very quiet location. We took our well behaved cocker spaniel and there was plenty of room for us all. Really well appointed and spotlessly clean. The gallery is stacked full of really nice gifts and well worth visiting as is the coffee shop was excellent.

A fab little gem which was everything dog friendly we could wish for! A fab view of Skiddaw, on the doorstep walks in the woods or round Bassenthwaite. The icing was that there was a Gallery/Tea Shop in the same building! Brilliant!

Gorgeous little cottage with beautiful views of skiddaw. The cottage had everything we needed. We took our little dog Rufus and he loved playing in the garden.

This cottage is in a very small village with access via a single lane road. If you want peace and quiet then this is the place for you. There is a lovely garden which is great when the weather is fine and there are excellent views towards Skiddaw. There nearest pub/restaurant is in nearby Braithwaite which is approx 1.5 miles away.
