Nestled in the lovely Northumberland countryside just a short walk from stunning sandy beaches, this secluded complex of four cottages is built on the site of the old colliery buildings in the village of Scremerston, just a few miles from the lively coastal town of Berwick. This is a region steeped in history, with the Roman forts of Hadrian's Wall and the heritage castles of Alnwick and Norham within easy distance. Keen cyclists and walkers can follow the Lowry trail around beautiful Berwick with its independent shops, restaurants and cafes while the birds of prey centre and Chain Bridge honey farm are ideal for family days out. The Borders region is renowned for its historic houses and abbeys, set in glorious rolling countryside, while the unspoiled beaches and picturesque coastal towns are perfect for picnics and water sports. The cottage is one of four properties built on the site of old colliery yard in Scremerston village.

The ground floor embraces an open-plan design that incorporates a lounge/kitchen/diner. The fully equipped kitchen has an induction hob and electric oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, washer/dryer, dishwasher with a separate dining area with seating for four guests. There are comfortable sofas in the lounge area to relax into at the end of the day. There's also an electric flame effect fire, in a feature fireplace, and a TV/DVD. Completing the ground floor layout is a contemporary-style fully tiled, spacious family bathroom with bath, walk-in shower cubicle, toilet and handwash basin. Large fully-glazed patio doors lead out to the private deck with garden furniture. Upstairs are two comfortable bedrooms in the eaves: one double and one twin, with sloping ceilings / ample head height. This appealing cottage offers an ideal base from which to explore everything that this breath-taking region has to offer.

Through the fully glazed patio doors in the lounge, there's a private and fully enclosed patio area with garden furniture and wide-ranging views over the countryside towards the sea. The grounds are shared with the other properties on the complex and offer seating and picnicking areas for all guests to enjoy. There's also an enclosed play paddock for the children with a slide and swings.

Fantastic cottage in a great location. Lovely walks from the cottage, we walked to Spittal and Cocklawburn Beach. We would definitely look at staying again in the future. Five stars from us.

Cottage in good location to explore surrounding area, but as it is marketed as 5* it needs some attention to detail. Simple things such as there were only 4 mugs provided. The only consumables provided were 4 dishwasher tablets. Issues with the kettle reported but there was no action to rectify the problem during the stay. A very clean and tidy holiday home. We were really comfortable there, and Holly (a member of staff) was on hand to sort out any problems we had. There are no shopping or entertainment facilities within two miles of this holiday home, so walking to the local pub or shops is not an option. We had a lovely holiday though, and would come back again.

Very comfortable and clean with everything you needed. Although chilly outside early morning and evening no heating was necessary as it seemed to be very well insulated. Couldn't hear anything from the people either side of us.
