A fantastic family retreat in the quiet Welsh countryside, perfectly located for exploring Snowdonia and the Tanat Valley.

Let us take you away from your busy life to this stone-built period cottage nestled in heart of Wales, on the riverbank of the Afon Tanat, right next to the village church. On your way to the property you’ll get to take in some of the most beautiful rural views the country has to offer. The charming village location encapsulates all that is appealing about rural Wales. The village is surrounded by steep hills, forests and waterfalls and is an excellent start from which to explore the Berwyn mountains. Other attractions within easy reach are Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway Museum, Revolution Mountain bike park, Lake Vyrnwy water sports centre, and the RSPB Bird Reserve, where you could see the Ospreys feeding from the lake. A stone’s throw from the property is also one of The Seven Wonders of Wales, the magnificent Llanrhaeadr waterfall.

This period cottage has been lovingly renovated very recently, keeping the original oak beams for a true country aesthetic. In the spacious lounge is an inglenook fireplace with log burner and a TV/DVD. Enjoy the evenings taking country walks, reading a book or the family can enjoy the separate snug with TV/DVD and Xbox games console. The kitchen/diner is well-equipped, with an electric oven, grill and halogen hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine. Gather at the dining table and enjoy your mornings in this light, bright space. In the evening it’s an excellent place for the whole family to enjoy a hearty meal. The ground floor includes a wet room with shower, wash basin and WC. To the first floor are the cottage’s two bedrooms - one king-size with a balcony overlooking the Tanat Valley and open fields. Walk up each morning and let the fresh air in whilst you drink your morning coffee in the fresh breeze. There is also a spacious twin bedroom and a bathroom with bath, pedestal wash basin and WC. The traditional elements remain throughout the property and are reminiscent of a bygone era.

Heading outside you’ll find a private patio in a beautiful mature walled garden. There’s garden furniture and a BBQ for you to enjoy on summer days. There’s also parking for two cars to the gravelled driveway and an extensive lockable mountain bike store and dry room. 2 dogs welcome.

We were looking for somewhere to get away from fireworks for the weekend. We were not disappointed. The cottage is in a beautiful, quiet spot and we had a very calm dog lying in front of the fire each night. We will definitely be back!

The cottage was well appointed and we loved everything about it. We had such a comfortable stay in a beautiful old cottage in a wonderful area with lovely, friendly people. There was so much to do for all ages - even teenagers! Oh and the beds!!!! They were so comfortable and cosy. In fact the main bedroom deserves a special mention as it was spaciRead moreous, had a new carpet and views to take in from a beautiful bed. The details said it was pet friendly, but no dogs were allowed upstairs. Wish we had known this before booking. Recommend The Railway Inn pub, a couple of minutes walk away.

Penybontfawr is a lovely village with a good little shop and friendly pub. The cottage is well equipped and in a lovely position with a very pleasant garden. We didn't have children or dogs with us but it is very suitable for both. The log fire looked tempting but we didn't need it, as the weather was good.

Our second time staying at The Coach House, we were very happy to be back! The property was clean, and just as bright, spacious and airy as we had remembered. The cottage is beautiful and comfortable and impressed two teenage girls who loved the fact that they could stay connected with good WiFi and play Xbox. We walked across the beautiful hills to the lake, played by the river, walked around the lake and visited the aqueduct at pontcysyllte. I would definitely recommend this beautiful cottage, well presented and modern but with a lovely rural feel. The location was just perfect, peaceful and stunning but not too far from attractions and shops. The balcony off the main bedroom was a lovely addition, and the garden would have been nice to sit in had the weather been kinder.
