The Dark Peak is home to exposed moorland, heather moorland and oak-birch woodlands and this property has access to some wonderful walks right on its doorstep. Nearby Castleton can be reached in just seven minutes by car and boasts underground caves and the hilltop Peveril Castle. Head to Chapel en le Frith to pick up your groceries for your stay.

The property has an upside down layout with the main entrance hallway leading to the two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a stylish iron bed from which stunning valley views can be enjoyed, while the second bedroom has two single beds at either side of a pretty window – perfect for families. The rooms share a light and bright family bathroom with a separate walk-in shower.

Follow the oak staircase up to the first floor and into the spacious open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room, positioned at this height for optimum rural views. This cosy room has a stone floor and features a fireplace with log burning stove around which two large sofas are positioned to take full advantage of its warmth during those chillier evenings. The kitchen area occupies one wall of this room, while a second bathroom with a vaulted beam ceiling can also be found on this floor. Outside is a garden area, which enjoys beautiful morning sunlight – perfect for an al fresco breakfast overlooking the valley.

Top Tack is a lovely, well-equipped cottage that is ideally located for exploring the Peak District. The only drawback on location is that the nearest pub isn't really within walking distance (the one marked on the map in Sparrowpit is now a cafe and small shop). Great views from the cottage, and you're right on the Pennine Way so lots of walking oRead moreptions close by. Hide

Really enjoyed our stay in TopTack. Excellent position to explore the Peaks and we travelled into Manchester to an event. The cottage was spotless and comfortable for our family of 4 and the two bathrooms were a godsend with a 14 year and a 2 year old. Our daughters particularly enjoyed waking up to the view of the alpacas. We will be back!

A nice, spacious 2 bed cottage. Very cosy and warm with lovely log burner and plenty of hot water. Part of a group of cottages and a large B&B in a beautiful, remote spot. On the Pennine Way and great for walking up Rushup Edge and Mam Tor. Our toddler particularly enjoyed the horses and alpacas. Wifi internet was decent considering how remote it iRead mores and 4G mobile signal was good. Hide
