A beautiful eco hideaway in the heart of the hills. Nestled on the slopes of the Black Mountains in the midst of the Brecon Beacons National Park, enjoy breathtaking views and dramatic night skies from the terrace, or stride out for endless trails through bluebell woods and ancient meadows.

Crickhowell is just five minutes’ drive away with local traders, a handy mountaineering shop, pubs and plenty of coffee shops. Abergavenny, of Food Festival fame is ten minutes in the other direction, a thriving market town forming the heart of Wales foodie revolution. Cathedral towns of Brecon and Hereford are also within easy reach, as well as Wales Industrial Heritage sites in Blaenavon. Nearby attractions include beautiful walks directly in to the Black Mountains and Sugar Loaf Mountain, cycle hire available with National cycle routes and mountain biking centres throughout the area. Pony trekking throughout the nearby Llanthony Valley, fishing on the River Usk, canoeing on the River Wye and high wire and zip wire adventures at Llangorse Lake. Leisure facilities: log fired sauna.

The accommodation offers TWO bedrooms: both accessed via external steps, 1 double and 1 twin with additional single bed - total sleeps 5.  Bathroom: downstairs shower room with WC.  Lounge/diner: with woodburner (first basket of logs included), TV and DVD. SAUNA: There is a rustic, wood fired sauna available to use during your stay, with Hamman towels provided and a bracing outside shower to cool off.  it is shared usage with the lovely Blackthorn Cottage which further up the same hillside, out of sight.

GO GREEN: Ingenious as an eco retreat is, excessive water usage does have to considered, so please ensure you’re thoughtful about turning off taps during your stay.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hillside Barn - the location is stunning, the barn is beautiful and we loved the walks and using the sauna. The hosts are also very helpful and friendly and the neighbours helped rescue our car when we got stuck in a ditch.

Fantastic location! Perfect to get away from it all but take lots of layers as it gets cold in the winter!

A beautiful cottage in an incredible setting. An ideal location for those looking to get away from it all or wanting some good walks locally.
