Pretty Grade II listed cottage in an ideal location on the outskirts of the popular village of Hawkshead, within walking distance of National Trust properties and local pubs.

Hawkshead is one of the region’s most popular villages, thanks to its associations with writers Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth. The Beatrix Potter Gallery is here, with its changing exhibitions about the author and her work, whilst visitors can take a look inside the historic Grammar School where Wordsworth was once a pupil. Lake Windermere is just five miles to the east of the property, whilst Coniston Water is around the same distance to the west. There are plentiful opportunities for walking and climbing within easy reach of the property, allowing visitors to be able to make the most of this stunning region.

Entering this property through the pretty porch, guests first come to a hallway, off from which they will find the cosy and homely lounge. The beams and open fire, add to the atmosphere of this room, where there is comfortable seating from which guests may like to watch the TV at the end of a busy day. Across the hallway from the lounge is the dining room which also benefits from an open fire. An archway leads from the dining room through to the kitchen which is equipped with an oven, hob, fridge, microwave and slow cooker, whilst the utility room, just off from the kitchen, is where guests will find the freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine. A door from here leads out to the patio. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms which are all decorated in a pretty cottage-style, in keeping with the property. The main bedroom is a king-size double, whilst there is also a twin, and a bunk bedroom. The property’s stylish bathroom, which is also located on the first floor, offers a power shower over the bath and WC.

Outside, the property benefits from an enclosed patio to the rear of the cottage, which has tables, seating, and a BBQ. A parking permit is provided for one car in the nearby public car park.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

The cottage is in a great location and really handy for the local pubs and shops. The cottage is lovely and well equipped and the two open fires make it really homely. It was really well stocked with logs and coal which was a bonus as we have not had this before. Parking is on the main carpark which is just a 5 minute walk away. On the down side thRead moree upstairs was a little chilly, and the lounge carpets and furniture could to with a clean. Hide

The cottage was well situated in the village and its facilities were very adequate. The heating system, despite being very dated was adequate. The cleanliness of the property was not up to standard.

Four of us (2couples) stayed at Barn Syke for a week. A very well equipped accommodation, we did quite a bit of cooking (due to pubs being unexpectedly temporarily closed) there wasnt anything we needed that wasnt available for use in the cottage. Hawkeshead is a quaint but vibrant village that consists of mainly independent local shops, 3 good pubRead mores but due to covid problems only the kings arms remained open all week. Some lovely walks without having to leave the village. Very dog friendly. Hide

Very nice great location, just 1 pub out of 4 serving food and was fully booked, so if you are staying book food. Cats kitchen was good with the landrover pizza on Sunday and Monday. So very handy location to stay.

Lovely cottage in Hawkshead village. Very homely feel with period furniture and well equipped with everything you might need (other than perhaps a tumble drier!) Would be very happy to stay there again

Old cottage full of character in the heart of Hawkshead. Shops and pubs just a minute walk away. Upstairs feels bright and spacious but downstairs feels dingy with small windows and low ceilings. Dog friendly and handy hosepipe for rinsing down after walks. Backyard fenced in securely but small and no grass. There is a washing machine, but a tumbleRead more dryer would be helpful too. Hide
