Barn conversion cottage enjoying a tranquil village location in Grizedale Forest, with easy access to woodland walks and two of the region’s finest lakes.

This property is located in the rural village of Satterthwaite, which benefits from a lovely pub, with its homecooked food and commitment to serving only local ales. For a larger range of facilities, the village of Hawkshead is four miles away and offers a range of pubs, shops, and National Trust properties, including the popular Beatrix Potter Gallery. The property’s woodland location means that there are plenty of lovely walks in the local area, and the Grizedale Forest Visitors’ Centre is just one mile from the cottage, and offers walking routes, a cafe, sculpture trail, children’s playground, and even a Go-Ape high ropes adventure, if you fancy a birds’ eye view of the forest.

This property is accessed by a flight of external steps which bring visitors to the raised  accommodation. The heart of the cottage is the spacious open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, a stylish room with lovely views across rolling countryside, which can be viewed from the upholstered window seats. To one end of this room, the dining area is light and airy, and offers a table which comfortably seats four. The lounge area occupies the centre of the room, and has double aspect windows, beamed ceiling, and a cosy wood burner which makes a delightful focal point to the room. There is also a TV/DVD, and iPod dock which can be enjoyed from the comfortable sofas. The kitchen has been designed beautifully with granite work tops  and offers an electric oven, halogen hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, and washer/dryer. One of the property’s bedrooms, a king-size room, is also on this floor, as is a lovely shower room with WC. Downstairs, on the lower-ground floor, there is a second bedroom, a double, which benefits from its own en-suite bathroom with shower over the bath and WC.

Outside, there is an enclosed, south facing patio area with table and chairs to the rear of the property with fuels across the fields. There is off-road parking provided for two cars and bikes can be stored in the property’s secure garage.

The cottage is beautifully appointed with a comfortable bed and decent shower. The views are lovely and the cottage has a lovely south facing aspect, and it is very quiet with few cars and people about. There are plenty of walks from the doorstep, we particularly enjoyed walking to Coniston Water and back and through Grizedale Forest.

Fabulous cottage with fantastic views. Although it has a small patio garden it catches the sun beautifully and is very private. Important to us was secure bike storage, and this cottage certainly had that with use of the locking garage.

Bobtail Cottage is a charming gem, beautifully equipped and cosy, in a very beautiful location with a stunning view. Its important to appreciate its relatively remote location and plan your stay and trips accordingly. You need to plan ahead a bit, for example, we did a big shop on the way there. The nearest supermarket is in Hawkshead where we founRead mored everything else we needed. Hide
