Both Lake Windermere and Coniston Water are a short drive from the cottage, where guests can try a range of waterside activities, from pleasurable boat trips, to windsurfing lessons. A lovely cottage, very homely feel, nice little garden, comfy yet squeaky bed! the road outside can become a little noisy with traffic. Great location for Grizedale walks, just minutes walk away but a little remote to get to Ambleside or Hawkshead. Lovely friendly pub 100yrds away. Very nice stay in all though, thank you.

Perfect location for Grizedale and Hawkshead area with walks or cycle rides literally from the doorstep and not too much of a drive to access Ambleside and beyond. Rose Cottage itself is very clean and comfortable situated in a tiny, quiet village surrounded by beautiful countryside. We would definitely consider returning.

We picked up the keys from Lakeland Hideaways without any difficulty and arrived at Rose Cottage. The only negative thing we could say, and it was a very minor issue, is that there is no real parking space for the cottage. We parked on the corner next to the gate, which seemed fine as no one complained but it was on a corner of a no through road. Read more Once inside the cottage was immaculately clean and tidy and the fire had been laid, ready for lighting. The bedrooms were upstairs, up a narrow staircase, and were neat and tidy with a comfortable double bed in one and a single bed in the other. There was more than sufficient hanging space for our long weekend. Downstairs there is a dining area, shower room, kitchen and lounge with a multi-fuel fire, tv and internet wi-fi. There is a also a comfortable settee and chair. Some tea and coffee, with mini milk cartons greeted us on arrival. Outside there is a paved garden with table, chairs, and a hose for washing down the dog after walks. There is a also a log store and shed. The cottage was perfect as it was only 100 m from the local pub, the Eagles Head, which has a varied menu with locally made pies, sandwiches and a good selection of beers and wines. The log fire and staff gave the pub a warm welcoming feeling. Satterthwaite is a small village between Hawkshead and Newby Bridge, it also sits on the edge of Grizedale Forest, which has some fantastic walks for all ages and fitness. There are two walks you can take directly from the cottage into the forest, which saves you having to pay the car park fees. Grizedale also has bike rentals, a cafe, zip slides and forest sculptures. It's a great outdoor venue. From Satterthwaite you can also easily reach the ferry to Bowness-on-Windermere or go round the Lake. We had a fantastic weekend, despite drizzly and misty weather. We will be back. Hide

Lovely cottage which is perfect for a quiet break, extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean. Well placed to visit towns and villages of the southern lakes and local to lots of walking opportunities. A car is needed as there are no shops in the village but they are only a short drive away. Would certainly look forward to a repeat visit.
