Detached period cottage with a large games room. Perfect base for exploring the area or simply relaxing in the glorious hillside gardens, soaking up the views as red kites and buzzards soar overhead

In an elevated position on the edge of Llangunllo village with stunning panoramic countryside views, the cottage is a delight inside and out. Drive, stride or cycle into the Welsh Marches and Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty including Glyndwr’s Way and the Offa’s Dyke path through nearby Knighton. Visit the majestic Victorian dams and reservoirs of the Elan Valley, or medieval Ludlow with its 13th century castle, restaurants and markets. Discover National Trust’s Croft Castle and Berrington Hall, Stokesay Castle, Abbey-cwm-Hir and the award winning Judge’s Lodging museum. Choose between country pubs and the cafes and restaurants of nearby Presteigne and Knighton or buy local produce and cook up a feast.

This spacious property is full of character with inglenooks, exposed beams and a charming maze of rooms. Access to the cottage is up a steep single track lane, with beautiful views from its elevated position when you reach the top. As you step through the front door the lounge is to your right with plenty of comfy seating, a wood burner in the fireplace, TV and delightful views across the garden and beyond. To the left at the heart of the cottage is a stunning beamed kitchen/diner with a wood burner in the inglenook by the large dining table, the kitchen well-equipped with electric oven and hob, fridge, dishwasher, microwave and a sink with a view. At the back door a covered porch leads into a utility room with fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer, practical Belfast sink and plenty of space for coats and boots. A shower room with a large shower and WC adjoins the hall that takes you back through to the dining room. Four steps lead up from the kitchen into a cosy snug featuring an 18th century inglenook with bread oven (and another wood burner!). A cabin bed provides extra sleeping accommodation if required, with an additional pull-out bed beneath. A hidden slide-out TV and a window seat complement the sofa and rocking chair in this second reception room. A staircase leads up to a lovely twin bedroom (a zip-and-link bed that can be made up as a super king-size bed on request) with its own stylish shower room and WC. Back at the other end of the cottage a second staircase leads up to the family bathroom with shower over bath and WC and three more bedrooms, all with lovely views. The beamed master bedroom has a king-size bed and en-suite shower and WC. A double bedroom and a twin (zip-and-link bed that can be made up as a super king-size bed on request) complete the accommodation.

Just below the cottage is a large games room with a pool table, table football and table tennis. The creatively designed garden has surprises around every corner. Topiary cows greet you beside the front door where a south facing terrace features benches, lawns and flower borders. An enclosed side patio has a table and chairs under an apple tree and a view over the village to the hills in the east. There is gated access to the steep hillside behind the house, with steps and meandering paths taking you up through natural gardens to a summer house and large deck with sun loungers, table and chairs. Higher still, set in woods full of wildlife, is a stone folly with the best view of all. Please note due to the steepness of the garden care is to be taken and children are to be supervised. There is lockable space to store bikes and a handy bike wash. Parking to the front of the games room takes three cars, with a further parking area adjoining the cottage for two more cars.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

If I was going to buy a holiday home, this would be it! We have grown-up children with partners and this is the perfect place for our family to get together. The property is in a beautiful location, it is well appointed and very comfortable. The owners have thought of everything in terms of safety and comfort. It suited 3 generations of our family and our elderly dog. On rainy days we used the games room. We visited Ludlow and did some fantastic walks. I would highly recommend this property.

We booked Double Arrow cottage for a family celebration. We didn't know the area but loved it. Beautiful unspoilt countryside, so quiet . Very comfortable cottage, full of character and spotlessly clean. The beds were very comfortable , plenty of bathrooms and communication and instructions were very easy and comprehensive.

We had a lovely stay but the property would not be perfect for nervous parkers or a group of 8 who wanted to relax together in one room: there are two sitting rooms, but neither is really big enough for 8 adults to relax in comfort. Also note, the gardens are wonderful, but some parts are not suitable for people with limited physical ability.
