Gilwern is a sweet village with pubs, shops and a picturesque canal all within walking distance. It sits on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and Blaenavon World Heritage site and you can enjoy country walks right from your doorstep or perhaps take a visit to the historic town of Abergavenny full of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. Visit nearby galleries, museums, castles and vineyard or take a trip on a narrow boat which you can see passing by at the bottom of the garden! Other attractions in the area include Blaenavon Iron Works, The Big Pit or star gazing at the Brecon Beacons Visitor Centre or why not try horse riding, golf, climbing and kayaking on the Usk and Wye.

Enter through the stable door into the hallway which leads straight into the well-equipped kitchen with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Located off the hallway is the master bedroom which is light and airy and has a super-king-size zip-and-link bed (which can be made up as a twin on request). There is a bathroom with shower and WC. Head from the kitchen to the comfortable, traditionally furnished lounge where you can relax on the sofa in front of the wood burner effect electric fire and watch the Smart TV or a movie on the DVD and head out to the garden through the French doors.

Outside there is an enclosed covered veranda, with hot tub, gas BBQ and garden furniture looking out to the Sugar Loaf Mountain. Relax  in the hot tub with the most amazing view  and unwind whatever the weather. Bring a BBQ and the owners are happy for you to use it within the extensive grounds. Being situated in a Dark Skies Area, the veranda is perfect for star gazing on a clear night! Beyond this are large shared grounds that lead all the way down to the canal. Private off-road parking and secure covered area for bikes available. There is an exercise paddock available for dogs.

We discovered this cottage six years ago and we return every year, we just love everything about this cottage, a true retreat. Comfy, cozy and tranquil. In the middle of nowhere, consequently takes ages to get anywhere especially with all the roadworks nearby. (08/2024) Great views of Sugar loaf from the decking.

This is a little gem....We were surprised how big it was as the photos don't do it justice. The owner is amazing and very accommodating . Lots of lovely walks nearby and the local shop and butchers were well stocked up. The Lamb and Flag is great value for money and very dog friendly and is only a short drive from the retreat. The Britannia which iRead mores in walking distance only allows dogs outside so not great if weather not so good. (The food was also good and reasonably priced)-excellent stay :)xx Hide

We had a completely restful week which is what we both needed. The cottage worked well with Lottie our collie. The cottage was very comfortable & had everything you could need. The views from the hot tub are to die for & there's plenty of outside space to sit & relax & enjoy. The paddock was a bonus & Lottie loved going down there every teatime. Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances, we had to cut our stay very short, in fact less than a day. On a positive note, the apartment would have been good for the week. The cottage is beautiful and boasts an incredible view. Very cosy and comfortable and the hot tub is wonderful. Brilliant location for views, walks or hikes. Nearby towns are friendly and charming. Pippa is lovely and extremely welcoming.

A wonderful place to relax with a hot tub and off road parking. Owners were very pleasant and helpful. Dog friendly with an enclosed garden and access to a large paddock where the dog can run safely free. Canal walks available less than 200m from property. Several pubs and restaurants within walking distance.

Our third visit to this stunning cottage. The location is just beautiful. Best views from the hut tub. Pippa , John and Boswell are so friendly and kind. You could not wish for anywhere more peaceful and beautiful. The cottage has everything you need. We look forward to staying here again in the future.

We found the Orchard retreat a wonderful place to stay, peaceful, spacious and a wonderful outlook and gardens . Hosts Pippa and John very welcoming, helpful and friendly . A very special place to stay. Great base to visit the surrounding area and further afield. Lots of place to eat and drink locally , Abergavenny centre and Crickhowell .

This cottage is a gem. I'm so glad we found it and would definitely return. Pippa and John are a lovely couple and made us feel so welcome. The views are stunning, especially from the hot tub. We are returning guests and are going to book again. We just love it. The kitchen is well equipped, the lounge is very comfortable and relaxing, and the bedroom is spacious. It is accessible for my husband as it is all on one level within the accommodation. We are so warmly welcomed and nothing is too much trouble . Pippa and John very welcoming. For those with dogs the paddock is great for ball throwing (as well as having beautiful mini gardens with seats all over the place), and the canal walk is wonderful. Cottage very comfortable and warm. We'll be back!

We had a lovely stay at Little Orchard Retreat with our dog, Colin. Its perfect for dogs, with a safe paddock to exercise and a canal path to walk along (and to run along, for humans!). Hot tub was great to relax in after days out. Pippa and John were friendly and welcoming.

Fantastic location - the view from the hot tub is stunning! We were absolutely left to our own devices and it was so peaceful and private. Its an easy drive into Abergavenny which is well worth a visit or three, a surprising number of high quality restaurants and plenty of things to do. If you take your dogs with you, you need to be aware that Boswell (owners dog) can come right up to the fence, so if your dogs are bothered you need to plan for this.
