A detached former drover’s inn, dating back to 1751, set in an idyllic wooded valley, alongside a pretty river. Only a few miles from the coast and Pembrokeshire’s golden, sandy beaches.

Pontfaen is a quiet hamlet between the harbour town of Fishguard and the coastal village of Newport. The property is set overlooking the river and woodland, a joyful scene in any season. Fishguard, close by, has an array of gift shops, tea rooms, restaurants and pubs and offers the Last Invasion Tapestry, created in the style of the Bayeux Tapestry. For enthusiastic walkers, the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path stretches 186 miles. Explore east towards Dinas Head and beautiful Newport Sands, where you can watch dolphins and seals. Newport Links Golf Course is situated nearby, with stunning views across the bay. The beautiful Preseli Hills and St David's, the smallest city in the UK, with its magnificent Cathedral are both a short drive.

Entering into a small porch and through a stable door into the cosy lounge with TV and bags of character, with beamed ceilings, exposed stone walls and a fabulous wood burner. A doorway leads to the good sized kitchen/diner, with electric oven and hob and microwave, double aspect windows give garden and woodland views. There is a utility area with fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. This is handy as a boot room and also has an additional WC. The first floor is accessed via cottage stairs from the lounge where there are two bedrooms, a master double and a twin, both have lovely rural and river views. Completing the accommodation is the bathroom with shower over bath and WC.

Outside there are large gardens, laid to lawn with a patio with garden furniture, and woodland beyond. There is an additional riverside garden just over the quiet road, with fire pit, perfect to sit and relax alongside a crackling fire as the river flows by after a day of adventure. There is private off-road car parking for four cars.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Lovely and comfy. Great walks/area You will need to take ALL your own consumables. Having stayed in many cottages, others have had an abundance supply of washing detergent, loo roll, foil, cling film, sauces/condiments, cooking oil etc which are helpful extras

Perfect cottage and location for a dog inspired holiday. Our two Gordon Setters loved both the garden and river garden. Shame about the weather but this didn't stop us. Loads of lovely walks on and off lead for the boys. We would definitely come again.

We had a great week at Step In, the cottage has everything you could ever need on holiday. The kitchen is really well equipped, loads of space both inside and outside the cottage. Very welcoming for both 2 and 4 footed guests - good attention to detail. Spacious and pleasantly decorated. The garden is pretty and catches the sun in summer (for an al fresco breakfast), and also in the afternoon. Plenty of parking space. Very quiet and relaxing with little traffic yet only about 15 min. drive to Fishguard or Newport which had aRead more good beach and good pubs for dinner. Pretty walks to be had along Cwm Gwaun without having to take the car. Hide
