Rural barn conversion sleeping four guests, situated on the edge of Coniston Water, on the lower slopes of the Old Man of Coniston, and within walking distance of Coniston village centre.

This property is located on the owner’s small far, up a steep narrow hill in the picturesque Lake District National Park. It enjoys a fantastic location close to two of the area’s best-loved features: Coniston Water and The Old Man of Coniston, providing plenty of opportunity to enjoy scenic walks, challenging hikes, and a range of watersports, for which equipment can be hired from the nearby Coniston Boating Centre. For a more leisurely perspective of the lake, the beautifully restored steam yacht gondolas which depart from the town jetty are a fantastic way to spend a relaxing day on the water. Other attractions in or near to the village include The Ruskin Museum, the Go-Ape high ropes centre in Grizedale Forest, and Wray Castle.

This handsome stone barn is situated alongside several other properties on the owner’s farm and offers comfortable accommodation for four guests. On entering the cottage, guests will find a hallway, off from which there are two flights of stairs, one going up to the living area and the other going down to the bedrooms. Taking the stairs to the first floor, guests will come to the open-plan living space comprising a lounge/kitchen. The lounge area has a selection of seating enabling guests to sit back and enjoy the warmth of the flame-effect gas fire and perhaps watch a film on the TV/DVD. The kitchen area is located just behind the lounge and is equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, and dishwasher, whilst there are shared on-site laundry facilities for those who need them. The separate dining room, meanwhile, is a great place to enjoying leisurely breakfasts and family dinners. On the way back to the stairs, there is a cloakroom with WC. The bedrooms and bathroom with shower over bath and WC, are located on the lower-ground floor. The first bedroom is a restful double room with a low-level, cottage-style window, whilst the second is a tastefully decorated twin room.

Outside, there is a small seating area with a bench to the front of the property, providing a pleasant place to sit and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. Heading through the courtyard, and on towards the meadows, guests will come to the edge of the farm, from where they can enjoy miles of scenic walks. There is parking provided for two cars.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

If you want peace and quiet, this is the perfect cottage. The track leading to it is challenging, but that is why we go to the lakes. The new owners are lovely as well.

Stayed in this beautiful cottage for 6 nights. Directions given made it easy to get to. Beautiful views from the cottage that look over Coniston Water. Out of the way of the village so it was amazing to switch off and relax! Would highly recommend staying here.

A picturesque location and a cozy property. The farm is up a reasonably steep hill, so expect a decent walk each morning/evening by default! This makes it feel secluded and gives stunning views over the lake, plus a head-start on walks up the Old Man. A very good size for 4 people. The twin room also worked well as a double.

Great cottage in a great location so 10/10 on those aspects for access to walks and a fantastic view. Sadly the maintenance of the property is poor so don't expect everything to work. The property is in the process of being sold which probably explains why the upkeep of the property is not being focused on. We stayed at Hay Barn in early August 2020. We really enjoyed this lovely cottage - the views over Coniston Water and the Old Man of Coniston are stunning. As a village Coniston has a lot to offer. We were able to eat in the local pubs and restaurants and the shops met all our needs. We loved this cottage and have booked again for next May.

Lovely location, Beautifull barn, very spacious, peacefull and quite. Amazing views. Kids loved flying kites from the top of the hills, chasing sheep and exploring the surroundings. Coniston is about 20 min walk downhill and after the pub dinner about 30-35 min up the hill back to the barn while carrying a toddler:). A very comfortable and well-equipped cottage in a lovely, peaceful setting. Due to the location (set into a hill), walking up to the property from the village and walking in the fields around the cottage could be quite challenging for some guests; access to a car to get into the village was essential, especially for grocery shopping.
