  • Former gate-keeper's cottage for the old Coppermine's rail line dating back to 1850 which has plenty of original features
  • Enclosed lawned garden to the front of the cottage with the welcome addition of garden furniture
  • Situated within 1 mile of the Lake District village of Coniston with its shops, pubs and historic buildings
Property code: LCC43

The cottage is located down a quiet single-track road just outside the village of Coniston. The village provides a range of amenities such as a choice of eateries and pubs, as well as several shops and a boating centre from where guests can participate in a range of watersports including canoeing, sailing, and stand-up paddleboarding. For those who want to enjoy a more idyllic view of the lake, there are a number of leisurely boat trips available, not least the trips offered by the beautifully restored Victorian steamer. The village is also known for its rich history and the interesting Ruskin Museum takes visitors on a journey through the village’s past, telling the stories of three well-known local figures: polymath John Ruskin, author Arthur Ransome, and sportsman Donald Campbell.

A short single-track lane track leads you to the period property which dates back to 1850. Parking can be found at the rear of the cottage and several stone steps lead from the road to the patio garden at the front of the cottage. From the little patio area, you step into the open-plan living space featuring a lounge/kitchen/diner with a flagstone floor. The lounge area has plenty of character with exposed beams and a wonderful warming open fire. After a long day of exploring, you can sink into the sumptuous sofas and comfy armchair and sit around the roaring fire, whilst watching your favourite movie. The kitchen area is situated to the rear of the room and offers an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. After preparing your favourite meals, you can make your way over to the dining area and dine with loved ones.

A short flight of relatively steep cottage style stairs (with a good solid handrail) lead to the first floor where an understated master bedroom offers a double bed with a window seat, and a comfy chair, ideal for sitting back with a good book. The bathroom is also located on this floor and offers the best of both worlds with a corner bath, separate shower and WC. A further flight of stairs lead you to the second floor, where you can find a twin bedroom which sits in the eaves of the house.

Outside, there is a small lawn to the front of the property with garden furniture provided which means you can make the most of the lazy summer evenings. There is parking for one car to the rear of the property, however there is more space for parking in a lay-by just 200 yards from the cottage.

This cottage is lovely and cosy and met our every need, and our little dog liked it too. It was lovely watching the sheep walk by every morning . Its location was close to Coniston and it was a bonus being able to walk there, which took about 20 minutes. We would definitely recommend staying here.

Great location and clean, well equipped accommodation. Be aware stairs to first floor bedroom are steep, but the details make this clear.

It was fabulous. Lovely homely cottage. Very warm and comfortable and super clean! Can't fault it. Just wish we could have stayed longer. I had the best nights sleep ever. The bed was so comfy. The corner bath was a treat and the house was very warm and cosy. We had everything we needed. Great access to local amenities and stunning walks.

We had a fantastic stay in this lovely cottage. Clean and well equipped for our stay. Lovely cosy cottage to come back to after days hiking. We stayed as family of 4 (2 teens and 1 dog) perfect cottage. Great location to visit local sites, Cathedral Cave, Rydal Caves and Aira Force a few we loved. Would be nice to be able to leave our dog in the coRead morettage so we could go out for dinner after long hikes, but understand why due to previous dogs behaviour Hide

A lovely little cottage with good facilities, in a nice location. The parking to the rear is however very tight, at least for our larger car.

A lovely, cosy, warm cottage. A nice bathroom. The stairs to the first floor we very steep, however, they were carpeted, and we were able to keep our dog downstairs thanks to the door in front of the staircase. Bit disappointing, as had lot of good reviews. The living area is very small, just big enough for 2 of us and a lab, wouldnt want to share it with another 2 adults. Stairs to first floor very steep and narrow tread so had to come down sideways. Neighbours door is at 90degrees to kitchen window so not very private, also the constant comings and goinRead moregs meant our dog barked every time he saw someone at the window. Its an old cottage and everything inside felt a bit old. Hide
