Set just half a mile south from Coniston Village on the west side of Coniston water, this period cottage is perfectly placed to either relax or explore the local landscape with its lake, mountains, forest and fell.

The cottage is located down a quiet single-track road just outside the village of Coniston. The village provides a range of amenities such as a choice of eateries and pubs, as well as several shops and a boating centre from where guests can participate in a range of watersports including canoeing, sailing, and stand-up paddleboarding. For those who want to enjoy a more idyllic view of the lake, there are a number of leisurely boat trips available, not least the trips offered by the beautifully restored Victorian steamer. The village is also known for its rich history and the interesting Ruskin Museum takes visitors on a journey through the village’s past, telling the stories of three well-known local figures: polymath John Ruskin, author Arthur Ransome, and sportsman Donald Campbell.

A short single-track lane track leads you to the period property which dates back to 1850. Parking can be found at the rear of the cottage and several stone steps lead from the road to the patio garden at the front of the cottage. From the little patio area, you step into the open-plan living space featuring a lounge/kitchen/diner with a flagstone floor. The lounge area has plenty of character with exposed beams and a wonderful warming open fire. After a long day of exploring, you can sink into the sumptuous sofas and comfy armchair and sit around the roaring fire, whilst watching your favourite movie. The kitchen area is situated to the rear of the room and offers an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. After preparing your favourite meals, you can make your way over to the dining area and dine with loved ones.

Stairs lead to the first floor where an understated master bedroom offers a double bed with a window seat, and a comfy chair, ideal for sitting back with a good book. The bathroom is also located on this floor and offers the best of both worlds with a corner bath, separate shower and WC. A further flight of stairs lead you to the second floor, where you can find a twin bedroom which sits in the eaves of the house.

Outside, there is a small lawn to the front of the property with garden furniture provided which means you can make the most of the lazy summer evenings. There is parking for one car to the rear of the property, however there is more space for parking in a lay-by just 200 yards from the cottage.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £100 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

Pleasant cottage to stay in, nice and comfortable. A really good location close to Coniston but quiet. Easy to walk to Coniston and Torver along the old railway track. Good walking for all levels from the door. We had a very enjoyable stay, a really nice week.

Spotless and very comfortable, brilliant location with track just down the lane which takes you along to the Ship Inn (super) and onwards right into Coniston without having to walk on the road, great if you dogs.

We loved our stay and spent the week walking all over the local area and cycling in Grizedale forest - what an amazing place overall! Our kids enjoyed swimming in the lake and we hired a canoe too. Great location to explore and lovely to be able to have shops close by for the essentials and pubs you can drive or walk to.

Cosy little cottage, lovely and clean with an excellent bridlepath into Coniston which passes the local pub so great for dog owners. A bit crowded with our 2 big dogs but small dogs would be fine.

Perfect little cottage and Homebase for exploring the lakes. Feels like home ... lots of personal touches and perfect for small family with dog. Stairs and garden access quite tough for toddlers and grandparents.

The cottage is perfectly situated: an enclosed (dog secure) garden great for sitting out in; its own parking space; walks in the local area (including up the Old Man) directly from the cottage; and a 15-minute stroll along a footpath into Coniston. The whole cottage worked perfectly: very functional, well-equipped and extremely comfortable.

We had a lovely stay in this beautifully renovated cottage during a snowy week in January. The cottage is in a lovely location just outside Coniston village and was well equipped; however the downstairs room can get very cold, owing to it being a period cottage and not that well insulated (upstairs was nice and warm though) so bring a few blankets Read morefor the sofa if visiting in the winter! The tv is very small so not great for watching a dvd on rainy days - we ended up using our laptop instead. Hide
