Elegant five-star property situated in a grand country house in the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District National Park: an idyllic location for enjoying a quiet couple’s retreat.

This property is situated amongst the green fields and fells of the Kentmere Valley in the picturesque Lake District National Park. As you would expect from the region, there are many miles of walks to be enjoyed in the area, catering to all fitness levels, including scenic lakeside strolls and challenging hikes and climbs. The most famous of the lakes, Windermere, is situated just eight miles from the property, with the town of Windermere being the nearest town to the property. This gateway to the lake is a popular destination for visitors and is actually situated 1.5 miles from the lake itself, and is the perfect place to enjoy browsing the shops and perhaps stocking up on picnic supplies before spending a day on the water. Around the lake there are several places to hire boats and other water craft, or to hop on board one of the leisure cruises which run up and down the water at a relaxing pace, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the beautiful surroundings.

This is one of three properties situated within a handsome country house, which is approached via a sweeping drive. After parking up, guests will come to the private entrance which opens into a hallway next to which the former dairy provides a convenient space for guests to leave their boots etc. Moving through to the AGA kitchen, guests will find an elegant space with well-chosen furnishings including a dining table and large dresser. An AGA sits in what was once the fireplace, and there is even a comfortable sofa. Between this room and the separate utility, guests will find all the equipment they will need to make themselves at home including an oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, and tumble dryer. Crossing the grand hallway, the next room that guests will come to is the sitting room: a chic and stylish room with a bay window, open fire, and a writing desk, as well as a corner sofa, a TV/DVD, and a hi-fi with integrated iPod dock. Returning to the hallway, an impressive wooden staircase leads to the first floor of the property where the sumptuous king-size bedroom can be found, with its dark-wood furnishings and spectacular views across the valley. The bathroom, also on the first floor, is a stylish sanctuary-like space with a period feel to it, and equipped with a free-standing roll-top bath, whilst there is also a separate shower room with a shower and WC.

Extensive grounds surround the property, and although these are shared with the residents of the other two properties, guests are most likely to feel that they are their own private, due to the sheer size. A terrace with garden furniture is an idyllic spot to enjoy alfresco drinks, whilst the generously-sized lawns are perfect for wandering and taking in the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. There is off-road parking for one car, with an additional space available by arrangement with the owner.

Please note there is a refundable £100 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

This was probably the best ever rental we have stayed at. The house is so beautiful, spacious and fully equipped and feels very homely. The location in the Kentmere valley is stunning and peaceful. A beautiful property in a peaceful location. Comfortable and well equipped. One of the best holiday rentals weve stayed in. You do have to drive down three miles of single track road to get there but it wasnt a problem for us.

Whilst the cottage was in a great location a note that it is reached by a 3 mile single track road would be more informative. In addition the height of the bed may cause difficulties for some people. We had a very pleasant stay in Kentmere. The house was wonderful and the owner helpful. The area is very remote, which was what we were looking for! We hope to visit the wonderful area again, and when we do, we most certainly will choose for the services of the Lakeland Cottage Company again.

We had a fantastic week at Pengennet. The location is perfect with lovely views of the head of Kentmere and walks straight from the door. The accommodation is superb: spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. It is rare to find a holiday house that truly feels like home. We loved trying an Aga for the first time. We would happily return.
