A superb house overlooking the South Wales coast and only a stones’ throw from the beach itself. With everything on your doorstep, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a wonderful break any time of year.

Set in the splendid coastal village of Southerndown, which lies between Llantwit Major and Ogmore-by-Sea in the Vale of Glamorgan. This little-known village has the super Dunraven beach, just half a mile from the property and a lovely pub and restaurant on your walk home. The coastal path is just 400 metres from your door and offers breath-taking scenery in either direction. The remains of Dunraven Castle can be viewed, and the walled garden is a delightful piece of history. For the discerning shopper, Cowbridge is close by with a range of independent shops and Cardiff city slightly further afield. History lovers can enjoy the fascinating museum at St Fagans which is also within easy reach.

This reverse level wing of an 18th century residence is perfectly arranged to enjoy the coastal and rural landscape. The bedrooms all on the ground floor and are accessed from the hallway, there are two doubles, one with en-suite shower room with WC, and a twin bedroom. Completing the ground floor is the bathroom with bath and WC. Heading upstairs there is a large open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, this wonderful space has views of the coast and rural landscape. After a day exploring the area, relax in the lounge with cosy wood burner, comfortable sofas, TV, Blu-ray and CD player and even a few toys for younger guests. The dining area sits just off from the well-equipped kitchen with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. All in all, a very friendly environment, where everyone can engage.

Heading outside there is a private lawn which is not enclosed, with furniture and also a shared lawn with enough room for the more energetic to run off some steam. There is private off-road parking for two cars.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

This is a lovely, well equipped holiday cottage in a beautiful area of Wales. We enjoyed are some great walks with our dogs and although Southerndown beach does not allow dogs in the summer, we enjoyed Ogmore beach which is only a short drive away, or a beautiful walk along the coastal path. The local Italian restaurant is also well worth a visit.

We had a lovely stay. This cottage is located close to both beach, pub and Italian restaurant. The cottage had three good sized bedrooms with one en-suite. The open planned living room, kitchen and dining room was a great size. The kitchen had a good range of cooking utensils. A much need restful vacation.

Great House Retreat is a lovely cottage in a superb location and we would not hesitate to recommend it. The cottage is very well equipped, warm and cosy with a wood burning stove. It comfortably accommodates 6 people. It is just 10 minutes walk to the beautiful Dunraven Beach down the road for fabulous views and back up through the woods and fieldsRead more. The cottage is perfect in every way - location: Its right next to the wonderful Southerndown beach & its really easy to get to from the M4. We loved the furnishings, the log burner was a great hit - makes it so cosy- great choice of games. Beds were really comfy & the cottage is lovely & clean. We would love to come back in the summer!

The cottage was beautifully clean and very well equipped. The bedrooms on the ground floor were a good size and lovely and warm. The upstairs was an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room with a lovely log burning stove and huge windows which took in beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
